Orienteering race (Extreme-O) 2:11:13 [3] 6.26 mi (20:58 / mi) +793ft 18:43 / mi

Extreme-o was fun, but I took a DNF and aborted part way through. Ran into trouble on the USGS map/UTM plotting leg. I can definitely use some more practice there.

Might have been closer to 7.5 miles, I didn't start my track until I was 3/4 of the way to CP3.

Definitely going back next year to redeem myself.

Orienteering race (GNC Sunday Green X) 1:46:33 [3] 4.51 mi (23:38 / mi) +652ft 20:47 / mi

Much better day with regard to crashing into rocks. I stepped in more holes (maybe 5?) but caught the far end so it only jerked my achilles as my heel dropped into oblivion and didn't send my entire body to the ground.

Nav was ok. Disappointed with CP2. I was careful with that one and just didn't go far enough. You can see my track was pretty good. Need to recalibrate my pace counting.

CP3 to CP4 was what I call a "Blue Ridge Special" -- nice little climb. CP6 to CP7 was long, but actually a lot of fun. Catching features across close to 1500m of forest was a great challenge. I ended up a little south of where I needed to be but corrected and moved on.

Not fast, but a relatively good nav day. 5th of 7 in my age class and 45th of 77 for the course.

Orienteering race (Green X) 1:59:33 [3] 5.1 mi (23:26 / mi) +634ft 20:58 / mi

Georgia Navigator Cup

I had some serious problems with #2 and #4 but eventually found them after losing a ton of time and finishing around the 2 hr mark.

Stepped in two holes about mid-shin deep while running which took me to the ground each time. Luckily, all the tendons in my lower legs are petrified from decades of basketball so no damage.

Tripped over a branch (leaves covered everything out there) and smacked my face on a rock. Glasses came off and everything. At that point I slowed it down so I could live to race the next day.

No podium this time. 7th of 7 for my age and 62nd of 77 for the course.
