Note

This is the third morning in a year or so I arrive at ATL on time only to miss my flight, and for the second time it is the UAL SFO non-stop. This time, it was the hired security idiot who didn't know the SSSS procedure to follow with my expired passport. He kicked me out of the line. I about called the police, but he did so first. The police didn't know, either. I got the SSSS stamped at the UAL ticket counter and got through another line without problems, but too late for the non-stop.

Warmed up to the start of Day 2 of the Navigator Cup. It was biting.

Orienteering race 1:18:25 [3] *** 11.2 km (7:00 / km) +555m 5:37 / km

The second day of the Navigator Cup. I ran a bit better than yesterday, which was evident by the many faceplants I managed (five or so) upon encounters with either low greenbriar, or ruined fences. I recorded the worst ones that I still remembered as of the date of this posting (08 March) in RouteGadget; the rest did not seem to have cost me much, or else I just carried the momentum forward, rolled over, and kept running.

I won since Mata did not show up, and was happy with the performance until I saw everyone else's results. Thereupon it became clear that my run was, at best, mediocre. It will take time to regain the speed I lost over the encounter with neuronitis and the resulting lack of interval training.

Length is from RG; climb is from the map. I think this part of the map is a lot more accurate than the eastern portion, the Polar mostly agreed with it but it also smoothed out some dips and crests, measuring a total of 475 m.

Note

After a whole night of map printing on the Epson 820, I made it to the Sprint area again (Mike Minium dropped me off), this time to place control stands. I lost one stand in the woods, and went to look for it where I thought I had dropped it, unloading the bag. It was not there.

Easy running 1:02:13 [2] 11.75 km (5:18 / km) +205m 4:52 / km
ahr:153 max:163 shoes: Mudclaw 330 #2

After a redeye flight and a trip on MARTA, I ran from the hotel to the area of GNC Sprint. My feelings were best described as perfectly normal. No nothing weird, nothing at all. I think this thing I had may be finally over.

The run itself was just inside the borders of enjoyable, with enough traffic and exhaust in this area of mostly suburban office parks to wish for a more pleasant setting. But I never felt unsafe in the traffic, and the peculiar neighborhood character made things interesting. It was cold.

Note

I spent just over an hour checking out locations for the Sprint. The north part of the map I was given by Sam Smith did not work out, so I changed the course to stay in the south, where there were enough man-made objects, picnic shelters, trails, and rotten-rootstock knolls to make things just interesting enough for a Sprint.

Note

I felt really weird last night. Sort of like having the flu (haven't had me one of those in a long, long while), but just the brain/mental symptoms, no fever or anything).

Note

I feel like crap crap crap. Actually, I feel like the day the neuronitis antibodies got dumped. I think there's a bit of a fever, and I'm sweating.
