hrv:8.0 ,7.7, 7.6 (yellow) and HR 55, 56, 54. Knee was a little worse after the race, feeling weak and wobbly but still weight bearing ok, then a bit worse again this morning, some small bits of pain from all round the knee when walking (limping), especially not liking being straightened.

Great to get to run here after only previously doing an orange at the 2011 6 days. Unfortunately 5mins in I was descending a slope and jarred the R knee - just landed with it a bit straight and it tried to bend the wrong way. Hurt quite a bit so sat down for 1min, but then seemed ok with a bit of weight so carried on. Sadly the nav wasn't getting the full attention it needed and I spooned the entry to #1, 2 and 3 by maybe 1min each.
Got my act together a bit after that until #13 where I was walking up a big slope thinking about how easy this control was (up a big valley and turn left when it splits in two) and I missed the left turn and binned a minute. Another 45s(?) on #14 navigating to a crag and not checking the descriptions and seeing it was a reentrant.
Plodded towards #15 wondering when I got so bad at orienteering (answer: since the headache started I've not maintained the spike-this-control-like-your-life-depends-on-it level of focus required) but then I saw Wozzle catching behind and was instantly back in race mode. Held him off til #18 then ran together at a good pace on the long leg to #19. Sadly the pace wasn't sustainable for me and I popped on #21 and it was a death march into the finish from there, thinking about how silly I was doing a long hard effort after no training. Took a tired route choice on #23 which probably cost 30s and then to top it off I missed the last control and realised when I got onto the run in, 30s maybe.
8th, +15mins to Gooch. I reckon 6mins of nav, 1min for the knee plus a bit more being cautious on all the descents, and the rest fitness/headache. Hey ho, still enjoyed running on such a class area.
