4 PM

Running 45:30 intensity: (10:31 @1) + (25:10 @2) + (9:49 @3) 8.21 km (5:33 / km) +132m 5:08 / km
ahr:139 max:163

KF and Crags with Stansfield, headache surprisingly good during the run despite being a bit hangy. Legs a little dead but great chat kept my mind off them.

Running 30:49 intensity: (15:49 @1) + (15:00 @2) 6.02 km (5:07 / km) +37m 4:58 / km
weight:64.4kg

Easy meadows plod, legs quite decent after the weekend, just slightly sore quads. Headache back to about average.

8 AM

Running 10:55 [1] 2.02 km (5:25 / km)

Shakeout with Spud, maybe the nicest shakeout route I've ever done.
11 AM

Running 9:28 intensity: (4:58 @1) + (3:34 @2) + (56 @3) 1.85 km (5:08 / km)
ahr:130 max:153

Orienteering 36:37 intensity: (11 @1) + (11 @2) + (3:37 @3) + (21:33 @4) + (11:05 @5) 6.35 km (5:46 / km) +117m 5:17 / km
ahr:173 max:182

Scottish Relays at Sluie.

Davros lost some time on 1st leg so was chasing DRONGO (James) and FVO (Keiran Watts) for about 3mins. #1 appeared about 100m before I expected it (paths very un-obvious and hadn't twigged 1:7.5) but we survived and caught FVO by #3. Only really made one mistake today but it was about 3mins at #6, should've known not to even look for the paths and just trust compass and contours. FVO came past and never saw them again so assumed they stayed ahead but actually I must've re-overtaken somewhere. Felt a little unfit but actually not bad leg feels, and was especially pooning the downhills. Plus James appeared 2 controls from the end which was a pleasant surprise, and Spud brought home the dub solidly as ever :)

Running 7:56 intensity: (1:52 @1) + (6:04 @2) 1.32 km (6:01 / km)
ahr:134 max:143

9 PM

Note

Headache not noticeable when running either day, and pretty good yesterday evening, but quite strong this evening. Couple chill days coming up.

Saturday May 28, 2022 #

12 PM

Running 9:52 intensity: (8:43 @1) + (1:09 @2) 1.26 km (7:49 / km) +22m 7:12 / km
ahr:120 max:134

Orienteering 37:31 intensity: (1:08 @1) + (2:52 @2) + (11:25 @3) + (22:06 @4) 6.04 km (6:13 / km) +94m 5:46 / km
ahr:163 max:176

Scottish Champs at Glen Dye (for 26mins then jogged back).

Lovely forest so a shame not to in the shape needed to munch the whole thing, but had a good time anyway. Running at an ok pace and held off Spud, but didn't fancy a long leg to the far end of the map. Times losses were a slow route/line to #2 (30s) and some bad faffing mid-route to #7 (30s).

Running 4:14 intensity: (1:41 @1) + (2:33 @2) 0.77 km (5:30 / km)
ahr:127 max:133

Friday May 27, 2022 #

6 AM

Running 32:46 intensity: (11:12 @1) + (21:21 @2) + (13 @3) 6.04 km (5:25 / km) +101m 5:00 / km
ahr:130 max:149 weight:64.5kg

Morning bog, nice and sunny but solo after managing to miss Tim and Sasha by being too early and not waiting as I wasn't sure of the meeting point, silly me.
5 PM

Running 21:15 intensity: (6:40 @1) + (14:35 @2) 4.35 km (4:53 / km)
ahr:130 max:145

Shake round the meadows in the sun. HR went a bit wacky around 5mins in (same this morning too) so have adjusted it slightly again. Looking forward to Scottish Champs but don't think it'd be wise to finish the long, current plan is to drop out whenever spud catches the 3mins on me, then hopefully be able to give the relay a good bosh.

5 PM

Running 31:40 intensity: (17:33 @1) + (14:07 @2) 5.74 km (5:31 / km) +96m 5:06 / km
ahr:128 max:147

Bog in some sunny but breezy conditions. Legs a little sore/tired but in a good way, not the deep-rooted quad tiredness that plagued the spring. Headache about average today, so not significantly worse after the hard running, good stuff.

Wednesday May 25, 2022 #

10 AM

Running 31:43 intensity: (3:38 @1) + (27:42 @2) + (23 @3) 6.05 km (5:15 / km) +72m 4:57 / km
ahr:136 max:150

El classico loop from Spud's house, legs feeling yesterday a little but nothing worrying and about average headache-wise. Unsure how hard to go at the LOC event this evening, tempted to try a slightly harder effort, or at least not have to hold back.
3 PM

Note

Lyme results came back negative. Good news, but still leaves the headache unexplained.
5 PM

Running 8:18 intensity: (4:03 @1) + (4:15 @2) 1.3 km (6:24 / km) +51m 5:21 / km
ahr:131 max:146

Orienteering 30:20 intensity: (19 @1) + (14 @2) + (3:22 @3) + (24:53 @4) + (1:32 @5) 4.0 km (7:35 / km) +147m 6:24 / km
ahr:170 max:178

LOC event at Holme Fell.

Not "racing" but decided to not hold myself back either so ended up at the default threshold O pace. Nav started off ok but then got sloppy towards the end, proper technique required as opposed to my laziness and passiveness. Much to do with being unfit and getting tired I think. +1min to mini Hudd and +2mins to Spud (after being ahead at halfway).

Orienteering 18:39 intensity: (1:14 @1) + (3:45 @2) + (7:15 @3) + (6:25 @4) 2.23 km (8:22 / km) +37m 7:43 / km
ahr:156 max:171

Bonus control pick job, taking it "easy" but the HR is unsurprising after the harder effort. Tekkers generally ok but made one mistake where I again got pushed around by the terrain, too passive. Cut it a bit short as noticed the headache getting a bit stronger and thought I was already pushing my luck. Quite strong walking back but improved a little soon after and don't really feel like I'm gonna "crash". Two very easy days coming up anyhow.

Tuesday May 24, 2022 #

8 AM

Running 1:42:59 intensity: (52:18 @1) + (50:22 @2) + (19 @3) 10.26 km (10:02 / km) +759m 7:20 / km
ahr:127 max:151

Up Barrow, Outerside and Causey Pike with Freya and Spender, walking the majority of the climbs so nice and chill, headache feeling pretty good too, barely noticeable. Dan left us at Causey to run home to Buttermere so pootled down and back to Braithwaite with Freya, quads definitely feeling the descent but avoided properly popping them. Dip in the river after with Spud too, pasty from the village shop, another excellent outing :)
5 PM

S+C 10:00 [1]

Headache maybe improving very slightly, definitely doesn't seem to be getting worse with this increased amount of running.

Monday May 23, 2022 #

12 PM

Running 53:06 intensity: (20:34 @1) + (32:01 @2) + (31 @3) 9.52 km (5:35 / km) +115m 5:16 / km
ahr:132 max:153

Pootle round Buttermere with Spud and Spender then an extra flat loop when they went up Rannerdale. Followed by an outstanding burger at Spender's hotel, great stuff.
5 PM

S+C 10:00 [1]

Can tell I've not done core for a month haha

Sunday May 22, 2022 #

4 PM

Running 12:06 intensity: (5:06 @1) + (6:49 @2) + (11 @3) 1.94 km (6:15 / km) +19m 5:58 / km
ahr:131 max:150

WU

Orienteering 45:56 intensity: (39 @1) + (10:25 @2) + (34:52 @3) 4.8 km (9:34 / km) +150m 8:16 / km
ahr:152 max:163

Some skog at Lodore. So much for staying out of z3 haha, turns out it's basically impossible when orienteering when you're this unfit. Felt very normal though, little background headache but mostly just the feelings of unfitness and trying to take it as easy as possible. Tekkers were mostly ok bar one absolute shocker, classic switching off when taking it easy mistake.

Saturday May 21, 2022 #

8 AM

Running 45:39 intensity: (10:21 @1) + (34:45 @2) + (33 @3) 5.29 km (8:38 / km) +345m 6:31 / km
ahr:135 max:155

Up Allermuir and down the scree. Very enjoyable albeit very slow, feeling headachy but not getting worse during. Max HR was on the scree, kept it below 146 apart from that. The thinking is that staying below z3 should keep things fairly safe and will try to gradually build the volume even if the headache remains the same level.

Cycling 35:00 intensity: (25:00 @1) + (10:00 @2)

To/from Hillend, again very slowly.
8 PM

Note

Came down to the Lakes with Spud. Went for a dip in Bassenthwaite, maybe try and Wim Hof this headache away.

Friday May 20, 2022 #

9 PM

Note
(rest day)

And we're done. Looking forward to summer but would really like to un-bonk myself first.

Headache slightly worse than last two days, back to being about the same as last 2 weeks. Some great runs all round at monument mile though!

Thursday May 19, 2022 #

3 PM

Running 29:45 intensity: (7:20 @1) + (20:24 @2) + (2:01 @3) 6.01 km (4:57 / km) +40m 4:48 / km
ahr:135 max:155

Feeling fairly decent again, bit headachy but it feels less deep-rooted, definitely less spacey on the run. Excellent vibes on the meadows with Todge, Davros and Noah.

Wednesday May 18, 2022 #

3 PM

Running 37:17 intensity: (6:09 @1) + (28:46 @2) + (2:22 @3) 5.51 km (6:46 / km) +167m 5:52 / km
ahr:138 max:155

Potentially the best day on the headache front since it started. Went up gutted haddie including the full bottom section which I'd not done before. Pretty toasty in the sun so taking it nice and slow, although HR quite high. Quads getting tired/sore haha.

Tuesday May 17, 2022 #

4 PM

Running 16:22 intensity: (6:57 @1) + (9:10 @2) + (15 @3) 3.2 km (5:07 / km) +17m 4:59 / km
ahr:127 max:148 weight:64.1kg

Feeling meh so just a short one, with 2 x 15s strides at the end cause why not.

Got blood test results back - they seem basically all normal, although was sort of hoping for a mega deficiency in something (big enough to explain things but easy to fix). I asked the nurse at the test if she could add cortisol and testosterone to the list of things to check as they might show something stress/fatigue related but doesn't look like they've been done, ah well. Ferritin 41 μg/L, B12 626 ng/L, RBCs, haemoglobin, haematocrit and WBCs all on the lower end of normal but don't seem too concerning. Iron may well have been lower a month ago since I've been taking supplements for 3 weeks now. Only thing outside the ranges they give was high bilirubin (to do with the liver) but that was only just. Doctor wants to chat though apparently so that's on Thursday. I guess the chance of Lyme is slightly higher now but won't get that result for a few more days.

Monday May 16, 2022 #

6 PM

Note
(rest day)

Exam 3/4 done, honestly was probably the best part of the day as it was 3 hours of feeling focussed, alert and productive. Pretty bored the rest of the time. Was half planning on running but feeling headachy post exam.

Sunday May 15, 2022 #

Note
(rest day)

Same old same old headache

Saturday May 14, 2022 #

11 AM

Running 43:15 intensity: (22:22 @1) + (20:19 @2) + (34 @3) 7.65 km (5:39 / km) +102m 5:18 / km
ahr:129 max:149 weight:64.8kg

KF + bog with Spud, Sam and Stansfield. Feeling similar again, getting gradually a bit more tired and wobbly towards the end. Basically very similar feels still to 3 weeks ago, hmm.

Friday May 13, 2022 #

8 PM

Note
(rest day)

Not feeling great in the middle of the day but sort of expected post blood test (successfully didn't faint despite running out of blood in the right arm and having to get the left arm involved too). Better in the evening, another run tomorrow I reckon.

Blood pressure 103/80, nurse said that's low for an average person but fairly normal for a young athletic person.

Thursday May 12, 2022 #

11 AM

Running 38:01 intensity: (17:53 @1) + (20:08 @2) 6.33 km (6:00 / km) +130m 5:27 / km
ahr:130 max:146 weight:64.5kg

Crags with Felix, having to go very slow to keep the HR out of z3 but lovely stuff nonetheless. Saw Prince William's helicopter takeoff from KF which was cool. Head feeling similar to previous runs, real test is probably how things feel tomorrow.

Wednesday May 11, 2022 #

8 PM

Note
(rest day)

Randomly a bit worse this morning, was planning on running but didn't in the end, just some more golf in the sun with Felix.

Tuesday May 10, 2022 #

8 PM

Note
weight:64.6kg (rest day)

Headache no better but the legs feel free of any lingering tiredness.

Monday May 9, 2022 #

5 PM

Running 22:42 intensity: (13:13 @1) + (9:29 @2) 4.42 km (5:08 / km) +5m 5:07 / km
ahr:129 max:142

Meadows with Spud and Sam, head feeling much the same and compounded by the exam adrenalin come down so running feeling quite unnatural. HR gradually increasing too but nothing too worrying.

Sunday May 8, 2022 #

7 PM

Note
(rest day)

Another groundhog day of library til brain dead then home for a bit of golf. Hitting the ball very cleanly now. QFT exam tomorrow, can't wait to get it done and finally forget everything, like clearing out temporary files from my brain. What a system.

Saturday May 7, 2022 #

4 PM

Running 13:09 intensity: (12:55 @1) + (14 @2) 2.56 km (5:08 / km)
ahr:120 max:133

Meadows lap with Felix, AJ and Telfer. Feeling alright, legs a bit fresher maybe, and nice to get away from the physics. Also slept for a solid 10 hours last night.

Friday May 6, 2022 #

10 AM

Note
weight:65.4kg

Doctor did all the usual checks (blood pressure, temperature etc) and they were all fine. Blood test next Friday (earliest they could do) which isn't ideal in the small likelihood I have Lyme as won't know for 2-3 weeks from now, but agreed there's not enough evidence for blind treatment.

Thursday May 5, 2022 #

5 PM

Note
(rest day)

Headache, unsurprisingly, a bit worse after leaver's meal. Should have gone to the doctors last week but Thompas' diagnosis was the kick I needed, appointment tomorrow morning.

Wednesday May 4, 2022 #

5 PM

Note
weight:64.8kg (rest day)

Was planning on running but felt tired and headachy so didn't bother. Ho hum.

Tuesday May 3, 2022 #

9 PM

Note
weight:64.6kg (rest day)

Exam 1/4 done, the thinking-clearly-under-pressure business was probably the best bit of orienteering training I've done in the last 2 weeks. Headache much the same.

Monday May 2, 2022 #

6 PM

Running 28:14 intensity: (19:03 @1) + (9:11 @2) 5.24 km (5:23 / km) +54m 5:07 / km
ahr:127 max:143 weight:64.8kg

Down towards Blackford with Spud, Dan, Tim and Ali which was nice then looped back through the hospital again. Felt very much as expected, heavy-headed and legs a bit disconnected. Nice and slow though and not feeling any worse after.

Sunday May 1, 2022 #

9 PM

Note
weight:65.5kg (rest day)

Headache similar, maybe slightly better than yesterday, even after a couple beers last night. Reckon another short jog tomorrow. Also, felt my pecs (being kind) jiggle as I descended some stairs and I didn't like it. Thankfully the appetite is finally coming down slightly.

Work going well though and enjoy the walk across the meadows every time.
