Vaccine hit me like a brick wall at about 3am, sweating and not wanting to move from lying down. Headache and v sore arm too but gradually improved through the day, could perhaps manage a run now but the full rest day probably won't hurt.

Tentsmuir. A frustrating one, was too focussed on running hard and thinking about times rather than navigating properly when it got tricky. Only 10s down on Shminty at #12 but then lost 1min on #13, 20s on #18 and then nearly 2mins on #21. Dying a little physically towards the end too and didn't help that it got a bit rougher. 5th, annoyingly at the back of a little pack. Shminty won in 53.

Took a long lunch so we could session together which worked nicely. Warm and sunny with not much breeze so pretty sweaty but ticked them off fine. Aerobically feeling good but not got much leg speed. 3:42, 45, 45, 41s.

British Mixed Sprint Relay Champs, 2nd leg.

Went out 6th after first leg and soon had Euan and Noah in sight. Sprint technique probably not the greatest but just about kept track of where I was going in all the alleyways and eventually got past Noah and then Euan. Out onto the dead running at the end and legs didn't really have any zip but ground it out ok. Jonny and Shminty about 14 flat or just under so will take that. Team would have been 2nd (even with 3 girls) if not for an unfortunate mp but hey ho.

Canal to Hebden, up the zig zags to Jumps, down Daisy Bank and a couple laps of Stubb field. Quads tired, especially by the end, but otherwise legs ok. Lots of swarms of flying ants about which were a bit grim to run through.

Prioritised the run by going at lunchtime and it worked in that my legs felt good enough to get this done. Tempo on the first two then last one was closer to all out. Long rests, jogging down a slightly less steep way. Tried to run strongly along the flatish bit after the top of the reps too (about an extra 1:30). Quads a bit sluggish but fine.

Started off from mcc along the canal to Hebden with Dad, including a R patella twinge at 5mins which slowly settled for the rest of the run. Steady effort up Horsehold Rd felt nicer, glutes working and good form. Then an easy loop round the tracks and home. Calves a bit tight which is never ideal, especially for the achilles. It's ok but being a bit careful, hence no CVFR tonight.

Long run up Stoodley, along to Withens gate, all the way round the conduit to Cragg Rd then up Manshead and finishing at Craggies cafe for a fry up. Legs getting pretty tired and tight from quite a lot of flat gravel tracks in old inov-8s, hammies, hips and also calves and achilles. Big mong out this afternoon, plenty of stretching and rolling too.

Back on some XC style threshy ints. Quads still a bit mashed but not causing any problems. Lap times decent compared to previous sessions here so happy days, starting to get that excitement for the autumn training block and maybe even some XC.

CVFR, but just went with Martin and Ed. Daisy Bank in 6:10 straight off the bat which set the tone for the rest of the run. Steady up to Stoodley and then down the steep side (quicker than I'd usually go). Then up the Shepherd's Skyline FR climb at a hard effort, stuck with Martin and Ed for about 2/3rds. Down and round the res, then some floundering in tussocks and bracken before bailing out and going up the Withens Ln climb, also at a hard effort, me and Ed just dropping off Martin in the last minute or so. Then steady round the moor and down the Clough. Good fun, good weather and some good chat too. A bit hard on the quads and knees but no proper niggles.

6 Days - Day 5 - Creag Dhubh (WRE)

Long and tough but knew it would be beforehand and was feeling ready for it. Started ok, clean enough through the rough stuff although went higher route to #3 which was a bit slow. Ground out the climb but then clumsily lost 40s on #7. Good for the next bit and was happy to hit #10 ok. Bit slow through the rocks along to 12 and also took a safer slower route to 13. Took the path option to 15 too which cost almost a minute actually - should've known there'd be a motorway going straight at the 6 days. Nice to have Tom with me for the next couple and got through 17 and 18 with some teamwork. Then just a plod through to the finish, walking lots of the rough rocky bits but also staying clean (relying heavily on the force on 23), so overall a solid run and ended up 6th.

Nice loop up to Spean Bridge, mostly on small roads so only a few short sections of trying to avoid dying on the main roads. Sort of tried to take it easy but didn't do particularly well as it was pretty undulating. A bit tired by the end (couple hours golf this morning too) but no worries, easy run tomorrow and should be good to go.

The two Glenfinnan Munros. Managed to forget my bumbag with phone, map, compass, food, cag etc in so ended up taking mum's phone on a shoulder strap and bumped into spongey who kindly lent me a jacket. Cycled up the tarmac road to the bothy (would highly recommend) then had a nice warm up on a gravel track. Managed to miss the path though which resulted in a 600m (+200m) terrain bosh to get back onto the ridge. Hit the first top in an hour and was thinking it might be close to 2hrs total. Main ridge was fun, no scrambling but pretty techy underfoot still. Last descent was steeper and rockier than expected (had to be pretty careful on the top bit) so ended up being pretty slow, especially given my quads and knees were getting tired and sore. Got down with no dramas though and was happy to have a water bottle at the bike.

6 Days - Day 2 - Inverlochy

2nd starter (Rhys ahead) and so had a lot of fighting through tussocks and bracken. Kept things fairly clean though and caught Rhys at 9. Alone again from 11 and enjoyed the little pine forest bit. Then some suboptimal routes on 16 and 17 before binning 1:30-2mins on 19, just a little leg in the scrubby tussocky stuff and stopped short (a track would've been nice!). Annoying as was in 4th at 18 and finished 10th. Maybe could've done 45 with a clean run.

6 Days - Day 1 - Ardchattan

Big bosh round quite a straightforward open hillside. No real mistakes, maybe just some suboptimal routes/microroutes. Fitness seems ok given the lead up but also still walking some hills that other people I'm sure would be running. Quads also getting minced by the 15mins downhill to finish. Happy with 4th though, 3:30 behind Sasha after being ~20mins behind him at Dollar 2 weeks ago!
