pretty good run, ran down a dead end to #14 and my route to #1 wasn’t the best. overall, pleased with how this weekend went, good to get some positive feedback regarding sprint o. v thankful to my mum for shadowing, better than doing the junior again :)

always love this event and this year did definitely not disappoint. tough course with a decent amount of climb but didn’t make any mistakes, so pleased with that. good to get some proper orienteering in after the sprints, need to go out for some more long runs to build my endurance though. for now, happy with my run and a pretty good result to (1st W16!)

such a dull course, just sprinting around trees and dodging little kids. not much to say about this one but just gets me more excited for when i can do the longer courses :)

would have liked to have been able to do the long or short but had to do the junior instead, v bummed as it was way too short and fast for me. messed up 11, two alleyways it could have been in and control description just said ‘paved area’ so just winged it but got the wrong one. quite annoyed abt this as it lost me quite a chunk of time and there wasn’t much i could do about it. oh well, onto the next one and great to be in edinburgh!!

fairly good run, my line was a bit wiggly on the long leg but found it fine. pretty fun tonight, going quite fast in the last bit, mostly trying to avoid some v angry sheep. on my own for most of it but good to get some solo o practise. excited for the weekend :)

a bunch of compass exercises, focused on staying on line without looking at map and re-adjusting my line when features got in the way. really good exercises tonight, would have liked to have a go on the blank map but ran out of time, will make sure to get up there again soon. legs still quite sore, calves in particular, going to roll them and should be better for the weekend :)

map memory w/ emma and long legs + control pick w/ rachael. not looking up enough sometimes on the long legs so worked on that in the control pick, much better and focused on picturing the control circle which helped a lot. overall pretty good today, some really good exercises in a very cool area.

WCOC night event - scale hill

so much better than yesterday, head was much clearer to start with so that’s a positive. knew it was going to be techy so just slowed the pace a bit and made sure i got the nav right. no mistakes, perhaps could have chosen a better route-choice to 4 and 6, bracken was quite tough to run through where i went. really pleased with my run and that i’m feeling a lot better mentally :)

LOC night event - birkrigg

a bad run to match a bad day, not in the right head space pre race so just happy i managed to get round. messed up 6, really foggy up top and a really unclear map with a load of unmapped bushes. also messed up 13, meant to be in a patch of green but was open, was pre-warned but no idea how i was meant to find it even with the knowledge of it. got round the rest of them fine and feeling okay.

o-limitation, paarlaufs + capture the flag. really muddy course with a load of corners for the o-limitation and paarlaufs so couldn’t actually get up to a decent speed, bit of a shame as this was meant to be the ‘physical’ session. also spent most of the capture the flag just wandering about. not the best time tonight, ywsyls ig.

back 1st on the blue + 3rd overall on blue!! good run, so tired at the end though. only mistake was a very small one at 13, lots of people so was a bit thrown off my line but found it fairly quickly. very pleased to have come back 1st, was not expecting too so a nice surprise :)

wow, such a tough course, don’t think the planner compensated for the fact that it was at night at all. made a hash of 2-3, was hailing and raining so just sort of contoured along but ended up being too high, not too bad compared to some other people though. decent for the rest of them, a bit scrappy but nothing too bad.

really like running on golf courses, very fun and fast. so scrappy on the last few, need to work on sustaining concentration, i can blame it on it being the 1st day back at school for today though! also think i am going to try drinking electrolytes like nuun because my stomach issues are still frequent. excited for the next few weeks of night orienteering though :)

christmas cup day 4 - south gyle

tbh, a tad over-planned for the medium course of the christmas cup. no time to plan ahead or think straight, just kind of had to wing the route choice and hope for the best. pretty far from a clean run but good experience.

a lot cleaner than this morning, much more my type of course and area. forgot to turn on my si dibber (the box was on the floor though) so had to manually dib! a good pace though and felt comfortable, nice to be in edi too :)
