travel day to budapest for EYOC!!

mix of emotions towards this weekend, nervous as it is my first time representing GB but also so excited to experience an international event in a new country with new terrain. preparation definitely could have been better without exams but it is what it is and i have definitely tried my very best to be in the best state i can be. main focus is to have as clean as possible runs but most importantly gain experience!!

v chilled, aim before this was just to build confidence as i haven’t done that much nav since exams have started so needed to do some. nav was good, choosing good routes and execution was pretty good too. last night in cumbria before flying to hungary tomorrow - exciting stuff!!

felt good on this, pace is botched because of rests but was running around 4:30s-4:40s on the reps which i’m happy with.

left side of my knee hurt quite a bit after this, felt it at some times recently, not awful and i can still run but annoying. will watch out for it, think i may have pulled something playing tennis yday so will see.

area is very good but quite brackeny and rough at this time of year which is annoying, survived without any injuries though which is good!

nav wasn’t amazing, haven’t orienteered (not sprints) since the wcoc event 2 weeks ago, so took a while to get back into focus. most of my nav was fine but a bit scrappy in the first half, much cleaner in the second half though.

also finished 4th week of exams, 2 more exams to go :)))

3rd. okay run, only mistake was out of #13, i thought you could get into #14 another way but you couldn’t, realised pretty quickly though. i was a bit paranoid after yesterday so my mind was solely focused on the nav so was probably going a bit too slow. job done though and happy to get through!

british sprint champs - final

2nd W16!! so happy with that, especially after yesterday and being in the middle of exams. some positive feedback going into the summer :)))

geeked a lot for this, so knew it was going to be techy so set off quite cautiously. route to #2 wasn’t the best but don’t think i lost too much time and also bad route to #16 through the zigzags. apart from that, nav was really good and happy with how i coped with the different levels etc. pace wasn’t the best but it meant my nav was good.

super happy with today, attitude has improved significantly since the previous british races so that is good. now time for 6 more exams :(((

mp, completely just didn’t go to #11. such a bummer, all other aspects of my race was really good but forgot the most important one! brain is definitely overloaded with exams so i do have my excuses, very annoying though. still some good feedback before tomorrow, running well and nav was good, just need to go to all the controls tomorrow. putting it behind me, all attention on the next one :)

taking this quite chill. one route-choice error to #6, originally planned to go the better way but then changed my mind. brain is all over the place at the moment, 6 exams this week which is not fun, i am 1/2 done with exams though!!

also been a year since the high dam selection race!! crazy how much my training and attitude has progressed since then, not had a run as awful as that one since then which is good as well.

another solid run, a small hesitation at #6 because the map was slightly incorrect and also i didn’t know the walls were crossable so took a longer route to #10. legs were feeling slow after yesterday and also got a small stitch so probably could have gone faster. fun course though + feeling prepared for the british!!

good run, think i could have taken a couple better routes as i was deciding quite late so some were a bit rushed, something to work on. felt good as well, conserving some energy for the next one though.

had barely anyone around me, only saw one another man who was quite far ahead of me on the course, not too bothered but would have liked some head to head racing. nav was solid again, making routes much earlier this time so they were better. pace was pretty good again, this includes warm up and down so i think i was going around 5s which is decent. some good feedback for next weekend and really fun courses!!

new area which is always fun, a good mix of forest and fell. pretty scrappy through the 1st half with a bigger mistake on #2, was rushing the nav and just needed to slow it down a bit. got into the open and was much better, taking better routes and taking more time to think about them. realised i actually haven’t orienteered (not sprints) in ages because of exams so nice to get some technical practise.
