Running 28:00 [2]

A little loosener on Red Hill ridge. 28 minutes was all I could manage with a super super sore back.

Orienteering race (Aus Long) 1:17:12 [4] *** 10.4 km (7:25 / km) +220m 6:43 / km
22c

Australian Long Distance Champs on Slap Up Creek near Jerangle.
Was really pumped for this race as I love this kind of fast granite terrain. With Lizzie starting 2mins behind me the plan was to set off fast as that's what Lizzie does and I wanted to stay ahead for as long as possible. There was a control pick fairly early on and I got through these cleanly, even taking slightly safer routes despite the short distances between. I got c7 well which many had trouble with, but then wobbled my way to c8 where I caught sight of Aislinn. It took three more controls to pass Aislinn and then I lost time on c12 by stopping to check out a clump of rocks too early, thinking I had gone far enough and not wanting to overshoot. Lost a minute during this leg. The next section was good, and I was happy with my long route to c16 going pretty much on the purple line. Not super sharp to c17 and 18 but got them ok, then fine through the last few but was moving very slowly up the hills and I think I took a slow route over the hill to c20 - around looks to have been 30secs faster. Stoked to take 2nd place less than four mins behind Hanny.

Orienteering race (Aus Sprint Champs) 16:35 [5] *** 2.5 km (6:38 / km) +45m 6:05 / km
24c shoes: Brooks Adrenaline GTS 13

Australian Sprint Champs at Canberra Grammar School.
Really good course and fun race. Started steady but dropped 20secs at c4 by running to the wrong control having not read my map on the way while passing through some dark tunnels. The rest of my run wasn't too bad but I dropped 10secs each on a few other controls to fall out of the placings and finish in 5th (I also punched the wrong map-change control and wondered why there weren't any new maps or tapes around!). Not bad for my first sprint since May but could have been sharper. Really fun event.
