Orienteering race (SA - P7) 58:46 [0] 5.14 km (11:26 / km)
shoes: Inov-8 Trail Talon 250

The last Sunday meet of the spring season. Sigh. Prepping for McCarthy the last few weeks has been a very useful distraction from this sad fact.

I seem to have run two races today: legs 1 to 4, with splits ranging from 8th to 18th and two big mistakes, and then leg 5 to the end, with splits ranging from 2nd to 4th except #10 which had a big mistake (a case of "so close, yet so far" (very far -- 34th!)). I guess doing more running on those legs helped with the splits, although I wasn't going particularly fast until the closing sprint downhill to the finish which was fun until the slight uphill part near the end, augh. Overall a good race with which to end the spring Sunday season.

Orienteering race (SS) 53:50 [0] 7.65 km (7:02 / km)
shoes: Inov-8 Trail Talon 250

Nepean Sportsplex -- Summer Solstice #2 (handicap = 7) (21/21/28)

The huge handicap of 7 was again the only reason I was able to get "all" controls.

A map reading error en route to 63. I had misread the contour line as a trail. (And thought it odd that an advanced control would be so close to a trail...) Surprise, surprise! Woops! Then, I wasn't careful enough in my approach and resorted to fumbling around, worrying I wasn't going to find the control, until it magically appeared... Good thing, as I hadn't left any buffer controls along the route to make up for missing it.

Definitely feeling a lack of fitness from not doing any running training lately. Must get back at it. 26 degrees, 29 with humidex. Getting used to not carrying water with me (haven't this year at all) but did take a quick sip at the water control.

Thanks to Pavlo, another fellow O100 student for his time and energy in putting this meet together!
