Road Bike 2:30:21 [4] 42.22 mi (3:34 / mi)

Ride from home to KOP and through Valley Forge. Beautiful out, not too hot. I made a point to drink loads of water and it felt like it made a difference. Legs feeling great after the rest. My right achilles is still sore, but I couldn't feel it on the ride.

Hike/Trekking 53:03 [2] 4.05 mi (13:06 / mi)

Forgot my running shoes at home, so I just trekked around Cheslen. Probably for the best, as my right achilles is sore after the Epic.

Adventure Racing 8:45:00 [3]

After an hour of this nasty road were met with a nice surprise at the trail to 5-08 - Untamed and Full Send were still there. We found the point efficiently, filtered some water, and got out with them, where we rode together to 5-09. This point was stupid. In the day it might had been nice, but climbing a steep, rocky hilltop at night in bike shoes seemed unnecessarily dangerous. We did get to enjoy a fun decent from their towards 5-10, where Untamed pulled ahead and Full Send lagged behind to deal with Kit's sickness. The ride to 5-11 was absolutely freezing. I had packed the thinnest possible layer and was shivering non-stop on the downhills, but sweating on the uphills. I also had dropped my last fig newton in a puddle and finished my Snickers, so i was truly out of food. My stomach was in a knot and drinking water was only making the problem worse. Thankfully Tom had a terrific idea to find 5-11, which got us in and out quickly. We ran back into Untamed on the way to the S/F/TA and arrived at nearly the same time. Rootstock was 2 hours ahead, and Jesse was an hour in front of them.

Leg 6 - Trek
We spent a good bit of time getting warm and fueling in TA, as we had left some food their for ourselves. Evan also had some endurolytes, which I eventually got into my body. Bundled up, we set out after 20 minutes with the understanding that we didn't have time to finish the whole section. Our plan was to get the 4 points in the north half. We ran into Randy at 6-01, where Tom begrudgingly got his shoes wet in the culvert. From there we trekked out to 6-06, passing Jesse running (very quickly) in towards the finish. Tom guided us from there to 6-02 and 6-03, where we turned the corner and headed for home. Time was not on our side, so we jogged where possible to get back quickly. I had to stop at times to avoid vomitting - I was in that bad of shape. Still, we arrived back at the mouth of the Nature Trail with ~30 minutes to spare, knowing that we would be safe on time. Kate, Evan and Tom did a phenomenal job moving on this leg. We were all in horrible places but pushed to get it finished. We got to the finish at 8:45, knowing that we were in 3rd overall (Untamed had done much less on the final trek).

So brutal, but very happy with the result. A bit bummed that Rootstock gapped us so quickly at the start, but we had great team dynamics and everyone gave their maximum for the race. Such a fun weekend - looking forward to the next one!!
