Adventure Racing race 3:16:28 [5] 18.0 mi (10:55 / mi)
Rootstock's Twilight AR with Kevin. First overall on a fast, flowy course.
I had stayed around after the family race, and Kevin joined me right around check-in time. There was a map each for foot and bike, with estimated distances around 7 miles for each section. We got to choose which we would do first, and we picked the bike.
The bike was smooth and pretty fast in most spots. We chose to go clockwise around the course, and we emphasized the benefit of Forbidden Drive whenever we could, backtracking at times to gain an advantage of simple nav and accentuated speed. The nav was perfect and we flew around the course finishing it in just over an hour, leaving us with a load of time for the trek.
The foot section was rather smooth and fast as well. We had a bobble with AA, where I also fell down a hill and smashed my tailbone. This slowed me down a few steps, which was happily welcomed by Kevin. We also struggled with CC, as I was only aiming for it off of a small jig in the trail which was tough to locate in actuality. We spent 15 minutes looking for it before finally finding the small geocache. Our trip to the northern part of the course was simple but long, although we did come across a section of road that was mapped by no longer existed. This only cost us about 5 minutes, but it looks pretty silly on the gps track. We did well to nail EE, which was giving a number of other teams fits, and left DD with only U left to get. It was a full 5k trek out and back to the finish, but we did it in just over 30 minutes.
It's always nice to be the first team back, even more so when you've finished the whole course. I also really enjoyed pushing hard and going fast.
Thanks Rootstock for another wonderful day of events!!
