Western States Long.
Weeeeeeeeee.......Splat. Back down to earth. The usual 10mins mistake....plus extras.
No. 3 Overran by 40 90 secs.
No.4 Overran by 50 m 2mins
No.5 Completely lost contact with the map about 150m out. Somehow got a grip of the situation and got it back together 3mins.
No.6 Ran into the start which completely threw me. For some reason I didn't expect it. Faffed about getting to the fence crossing 3mins.
No. 10 Here's where I should've seen the warning signs for the future. Started to get a tad clever and ran down the wrong path. Corrected and doubled back. 2mins.
No.11 Ran down the wrong re-entrant to the west. (JJ told me. I never saw him and was already in the stage of aimlessly milling about and hit it). 2mins
No. 13..........Bingo! Parallel error on a nuclear scale. 10 mins.
TOTAL...Over 22 mins of mistakes. The winner absolutely smashed it and I bet he's made mistakes. I doff my chapeaux
I honestly think the whole weekend was magic, but that course was sublime. When I got the map and realised there was a flip I knew I was in for something very special. Brilliant.
NB. On a positive note, I unofficially won the Yellow in flip flops and civvies. Eadie took just under 4 hours to find zero controls. That's a family record. She's still smiling and happy though. (Not as happy as I was to see her mind). Many Thanks to Darrell who gave her one of the prizes for her efforts. It helped the pain.
NNB. Groin is there in the background, but today wasn't a factor.
NNNB. After talking with Balter and JJ, who pointed out that by and large the wheels of my race came off at the very end when the hard work was done. I've thought back and the same happened in Tahoe and the JK Long. More mileage under stress at the end is needed. Work to be done and now I've got something to physically concentrate on rather than lLSD mixed with speedwork. Jordan L. always felt the Long should be my strength, but I've only done decently in Sprints and Middles.
