Big Finn Hill O meet in evening. My legs felt a bit tired, somewhat better toward the end.
I ran the 5000m at the all-comers meet a while later. I started slowly and tapered off, since my legs felt sort of flat, and my abs felt out of it, also, so I was running somewhat sway-backed. I guess my legs were glycogen-depleted or otherwise not recovered from my recent training, because they died hard, and I found myself running as slowly as threshold pace, despite the cautious starting pace. I ended up running just under 17:14, which would not be a terrible first half of a 10k right now, but is terrible indeed for 5k. 1600m split was about 5:20-21, 3k was 10:07. I thought about dropping out at 3200m, but I decided it would be bad mental practice and that I should stick it out. I didn't push much, because there was no point, and I just imagined being this tired in a WOC race and putting special effort into concentrating on the navigation to get smoothly to the finish.
