slept:7.8

I've been getting 7+ hours of sleep, of varying qualities, for most nights lately.

I did a few bits of running or hill walking while scouting the BEAST race #4 course. My body feels out of it. I hope I bounce back for the WC races on the weekend.

I was on my feet for much of the day scouting the Wallingford Street Scramble course. I had some bits of running, too, a total of maybe 30 minutes. My legs felt very tired at times, I guess from yesterday's hilly orienteering.

Note

I did a bit of running at Banner Forest (NWTR scouting), and then did lots of easy running in short stints while vetting the Port Orchard Street Scramble course. Climb was more than recorded on my watch, because I forgot to start and stop it at right times.

Big Finn Hill O meet in evening. My legs felt a bit tired, somewhat better toward the end.

I ran the 5000m at the all-comers meet a while later. I started slowly and tapered off, since my legs felt sort of flat, and my abs felt out of it, also, so I was running somewhat sway-backed. I guess my legs were glycogen-depleted or otherwise not recovered from my recent training, because they died hard, and I found myself running as slowly as threshold pace, despite the cautious starting pace. I ended up running just under 17:14, which would not be a terrible first half of a 10k right now, but is terrible indeed for 5k. 1600m split was about 5:20-21, 3k was 10:07. I thought about dropping out at 3200m, but I decided it would be bad mental practice and that I should stick it out. I didn't push much, because there was no point, and I just imagined being this tired in a WOC race and putting special effort into concentrating on the navigation to get smoothly to the finish.
