1st on leg! 2nd team!
Great day at the office for CUOC.
Speedy mass start down the hill before I messed up #1 royally - went to the wrong gaffle before my own so had to gallumph back up the hill with Davros and Joe. Was off the pack obviously so put the foot down for the next few controls. Wasn't massively clean (to quote davros, 'you were a bit rubbish') but was moving well and started to reel in some familiar faces up ahead.
Got myself to the front of a sort-of chasing pack and at this point was in 4th. Very very nearly caught Dan and Flurry at #12 but a 10 second miss did for me. Some hesitations meant I was going through spec around 40secs down apparently.
Last loop was pretty foul in terms of brambles and I felt my pace going right down. Wasn't messing up but not at all clinical so was thinking they would be putting time in on me. Finished strong though, and was then informed that I'd come back first! Honestly thought it was a joke at first but sure enough it was true - mad! Guess you always gotta keep pushing.
Olly had a stonking run on second leg and James did valiantly to keep up with a decidedly in-form spud for most of the course - we will take that!

BUCS - 2nd
Really pleased with both run and result today!
Set off pretty aggressively on the moor and made 1 or 2 minor hesitations but nothing tangible. Took the decent option on the long leg and then had the fun mind games of seeing both peds (2mins) and Flurry (4mins) ahead of me on the long pull up the hill.
Could feel that I was reeling in peds ever so gradually and sure enough had got him coming into #12 but then we split into loops. Made a concerted effort to try and get back before him but ended up being there at the exact same time.
Descent into the forest was pretty brutal but managed to keep the head so no worries there. Saved Peds from a dsq when he punched the wrong control - seemed fair when he’d led the previous 3 legs.
The run up to the finish was so brutal - felt ruined by the end but knew it was a good run. Overall gotta be very satisfied with that - pretty much clean and stayed strong through some really tough terrain - the tussocks were so grim at points. Onwards.

Hareys taper sesh
2 lap tempo (6:30), 3mins, 6x~2mins with jog back to start recovery
Everyone else tapering for nationals so it made sense to also taper for bucs as well - a nice way to ease back into things.
Very muddy which was a good laugh. Felt fine throughout and decided to stretch the legs on the last rep and went for a wee speedrun on it. Felt strong and it's always good to get an end of sesh burn.
Ackland may or may not have called this session, and I quote, 'quite chunky'. I worry, I really do. (He brought himself round don't worry.)
