Waterbeach SLR. Legs were feeling tired after yesterday's exertions so I was very glad that everyone else was in a similar frame of mind to me and looking for an easy ride. Settled in inside a James sandwich and ticked it off. Excellent chat and as much as I love the type of hilly long runs I've been doing this summer, there is something lovely about the effortless nature of this - sorry, blasphemy I know.
Big week banked - good stuff

Freshers' 5k - 1st
Was really looking forward to this, with a big/strong field. Amazingly, Ed Sheeran (as in the actual, real-life, ginger Ed Sheeran) was at the athletics track to watch his wife play hockey on the adjacent hockey pitches and a lot of people saw him during the WU. Apparently he was in the car park when we ran through but unfortunately I didn't see him.
Anyway, set off in the lead and quickly a front three of myself, Angus and Neil formed. Quick first k before a slower second, to be expected on that route. Ploughed on with Neil and Angus started dropping off a bit. Increased the pace a bit on the long straights back towards the track and had to hold off a surge from Neil with 800 to go.
Decided I backed myself over 600 so went at 4.4k and engaged gurn mode to take a 3 second dub.
Very satisfying run, only 6 seconds off the PB on a course with some sharp corners. Nice to know the speed is still there. Very much business as usual: first 3k are tough but fine, last 2 are a grind. Onwards, just with no autograph from Ed :(

Some easy fields miles before meeting up with James and heading over to SJP for tea run - literally around 70-80 people there which was a) mad and b) highly chaotic. Lots of sweary cyclists. Just doing god's work.

Steadier run over the hill and over to Grantchester. Took a while to wake up the legs but once I did I had that nice 4:00-4:05s feeling that you could do it forever.

Hareys ints at Churchill
5,4,3,2,1,1,2,3 (should have been 4,5 but aborted)
Pretty early start time was kinda problematic cos I wasn't able to get lunch till 1.10 so wasn't exactly surprising when I could feel the stomach from early on. Was working well with Joe, Neil and James and the pace was decent so ploughed on.
However, after the 2 I had to move to emergency footing and head to the loo - thought I would do the 3, and I did, but it was going absolutely nowhere and I still needed the loo so just aborted. Grr. Not much I could really do on this occasion but it's always annoying to not finish a sesh. Ah well - was a good move cos I was plagued by the same issues during the WD as well (no more detail needed) so today was not my day.

Running 16:37 intensity: (9 @0) + (28 @1) + (14:57 @2) + (1:03 @3) 2.84 km (5:52 / km)

Very nice and easy run with Isaac and James out towards Grantchester - good to get everyone's chat after the break. Cambridge feels so much busier and vibrant - big thumbs up
