Very mixed feelings about this one to be honest. Obviously wanted a better performance than yesterday and was very much having the mantra of if you’re at all unsure then just stop.
After a tiny miss at #1 I lost some time at #2 cos I didn’t have a clear plan for the circle. Faffed at #3 before screwing the tapes which I never found - really thriving at this point yes lad.
Then I lost a solid 2 mins on #5 - must have been so close to it and was convinced I was right - dropped low to relocate and then found it just as sunley arrived.
We split on #7 and I spiked it from high so got a wee gap. Pushed on before a quick faff on #10. Then I made a proper moron mistake to #11 - just ran to the fence with zero compass, then proceeded to cross said fence (even though the control should’ve been on the fence) before realising what I’d done. Went straight back the way I’d came like a good boy. Then just completely cocked #12 - no plan, no detail, no hope.
Was caught by joe here. Next few controls were all good apart from a miss at #16. I was leading from #17 and absolute highlight of the course was spiking #21 - was a super tricky control and I honestly could’ve cried with happiness. Joe saved me on #22 then I got a gap to the finish, featuring the most horrible run in of all time.

So yep. 2 sizeable mistakes and a very scrappy start before getting it together. Ultimately though, a lot of people really struggled today so although I was very surprised initially by the result it does kinda make sense.
I’m thinking I may have overestimated my nav capabilities (even when I was actively being careful), which are just not there for the forest atm, but there is literally nothing I can do about that. In fact, my stamina felt excellent which is great to see. I feel like I honestly did the best I could in terms of prep for these really techy selections so I can’t be too hung up on mistakes like these, which get ironed out with time in the forest.
Have to say I’ve really really enjoyed this weekend - class areas and peng weather and was great to catch up with everyone. I’ll have a wee rest and then evaluate how the summer is gonna play out (I do have some ideas...)
Now back to finishing my exams lol.

British middles - summerhouse knott
Ah dear. Not a good day at the office today. Knew I was obviously lacking forest time of late, but still felt I could do a good job provided I was careful.
First two controls were absolutely fine, then binned 5 mins at 3. Wasn't quite sure what I was doing for the final approach and then just really struggled to relocate. Bailed to the bottom 3 times before eventually getting it. Pretty sure if I'd just followed gg I would have been fine but let's face it that's not the best tactic.
Then I messed up 4 as well - poor route, poor compass, poor relocation. From then I was fully aware the race was gone but still plowed on cos I'm not a wetty. Banana'd 5 before bumbling along the slope to 7 and faffing through 8 and 9.
From here on we were all good, lovely forest and was running well for the most part.
So yeah, a really disappointing and frustrating performance today. Felt like I could have done well and yet didn't so selections and all that aside that is a bit annoying. Still, there are worse things in the world and we do in fact roll on for tomorrow

That was a lot of fun. Solid course and excellent vibes. However, I managed to lose a pretty hefty chunk of time on the first and third legs - got the wrong routechoice for both of them and although I didn't really realise at the time I defo paid the price for it.
Was solid in the town and did my very best to get run over multiple times (as it should be). Took the hill route by accident to #9 but don't think that was too much of a disaster. Biggest mistake was #11 where I couldn't read the detail so ended up taking a faffy route. Could've made big gains by going round. All good to the finish, got a nice run of fastest splits.
So overall a competent performance that I'm defo pleased with. Made sure to get my head down (or up, to avoid the pedestrians) as much as possible and really push on whenever I could. Just a few tiny details to work on. Great to see the results being so close!

Some final training in before the weekend - not really fussed about the pace just more looking for the processes to be there. Was a right mug to #2 but apart from that it was all good

Cam centre sprintervals.
Started off next to Jesus for some narrow alleys practice - pleased with this, kept it together. Then did the downing site and finished near coe fen. Good wee training sesh and was pleased with what was happening.
