Easy recovery with grace and our friends dog.
Feeling pretty shattered all day after a gruelling overnight bus from London to edin combined with general post-JWOC fatigué but acc felt much perkier running than I have felt all day even if it was a bit hot n sweaty

Amazing last week. Had the best time and learnt so much over the course of the races. Bit of a whirlwind (not just talking about the races there..) but really got so much out of it and am now super motivated for the rest of this season, next year and beyond. What an experience.

JWOC Relay 2nd leg for the second team. Team came 27th.

Was feeling some serious hype for this, only heightened after seeing the sickest mass start ever - the commentator is a genius for getting the bass drop perfectly in time.
Fin had a great run so I was set out in 11th or so just off the back of the main chasing pack. Set off hard and spiked #1 behind my old friend from the long Aaro but soon realised that I simply wasn't gonna be able to keep up with these guys (Eddie, Aaro, Elias Jonsson, Baklid) so decided to not give chase and focus on myself.
Spiked all the next controls, getting caught by RUS, DEN and HUN as well. My only real mistake was to #8. Didn't really check the compass and therefore matched myself up with a parallel spur. Soon had suspicions and although I relocated pretty instantly I still had to trek along a crappy slope cos of this banana so lost a decent amount of time.
After that was all good, mainly with CZE and NZL being relatively safe and just making sure I was checking codes and finding the controls. Zac had a solid run so we got 9th out of the second teams which is pretty good..

Rest of the time was spent stressing over firstly the boys (although I managed to miss most of third leg getting changed) and then the girls, or should I rephrase praying to the heavens that Grace 'tractor' Molloy held off the Russian girl and avoided a sprint finish. But she did!! Phew! Was awesome to be part of the team on Friday - a truly special day where everything fell into place and everyone's hard work finally paid off!

JWOC Middle Quali
35th.

Hmm. Set off pretty cautious to #1 which was very tricky and after a wee banana to #2 I made a mistake on #3 cos I was on the wrong spur.
Was too far left on #4 as well before missing #6 cos I shoulda been higher up the spur. Was ok for the next few but lost time on #12 on the wrong reentrant. Was fine to the finish.
Shame I didn’t qualify but not surprising. I was 2:30 off the time, but that’s what you get for scrappiness. Just need to more careful with the nav in these situations.
But ultimately I had a good time and when I was navving well things were working. Good experience for how to run a middle. Onwards to a rest day and the relay :)

JWOC Long - 43rd

Got given a pretty filthy early start so was prepared for some pretty tough untrampled skog. Again nice and chill before so set off relaxed. Made a mistake at #1 when I was looking for the control in the reetrant rather than the thicket but no stress.

Was fine through to #5 then saw that my approach to #6 was gonna pretty tricky (horrible green everywhere) so was very cautious. Thought I’d slightly overshot it and sure enough turned round to see a vat of water hanging from a tree and realised it was the water stop control - yassss!

Long leg was fine but did take a pretty rough straight route to #8 which was a grind. Phi loop was fine if a bit cautious in places due to grot.

Didn’t realise but acc got caught by my 6 minute man Aaro at #13 but we separated to #14 where I razzed it along the bottom path. Coming into #14 he punched about 15 secs ahead so then ran as fast as my leggies to catch him on the path to #15. Upside of this was that I got a second fastest split on this leg which is awesome.

Found #15 then just snuck in behind him till spec. We were slightly too high to #19 but I realised and got it. For #20 he started to go straight but I thought absolutely not and stuck with my round path route, which was a pretty bold move that could’ve gone pretty badly. Luckily we punched #20 at the same time and were together again.

Was grind up to the end, especially from the TV control to the last control, where I overtook aaro cos he just died on the hill. Finished completely dead.

Very pleased with the run and the result. Long hasn’t been my best thing this season so was great to put in another solid performance on a tough and technical area!
