JK Long @ Cold Ash
Yikes

Race didn’t get off to a good start when I lost at least 3 mins to #1, through a combo of not reading the scale, not pausing to actually work out where I was going, not committing to a route, and not finding the control. Then I went back cos I was scared it didn’t register. Oof- got caught by joe here

We stuck together till #10 in the green- got round that reasonably unscathed then chose a good routechoice for the long leg but just wasn’t shifting at all. Starting talking to a deer. Yep. Saw James at #16 and headed to the water stop to singlehandedly accelerate climate change with my plastic cup use. Was pretty solid to the end with James just not feeling very zingy at all and only just holding off an almighty bonk.

All in all an ok run that kept me on the podium at least- just need to chill out at the start :)
Turns out I came third - fantastisch

JK Middle - 1st on M18.
Set off hard but made a very marginal parallel error to #2, but saved it quickly. Faffed at #5 with the dodgy veg boundary and then settled down a bit after that, just trying to avoid climb where possible.
Saw Dan at #16 which helped a lot and got sort of towed to spec then just followed tracks for the end.
Tad scrappy but very pleased with the result

JK Sprint M18 - 4.0km
1st

You won’t have heard this before from anyone today, but it was hot. Set off hard and was clean round the first bit, just a tiny hesitation at #7. Next bit was fine- just committed to my routechoices but had geeked a lot so was fine.
Saw Matt coming out of #22 which was a big mental boost that helped for the slog that was the last few controls.
Finished and went through the whole saga of mispunching even though I hadn’t- was told I would be reinstated thanks to my backup card. Anyway, 3 and a half hours later with 4 rounds of asking we got on the results. Yippee

Ankle feels really good- getting it taped tomorrow. Was taps aff for this cos of itching and had an old couple staring at me outside in the dark. I gave them a friendly wave and they waved back.
