To meadows featuring getting shouted at by a crazy spud on a bike which was fun.

Running intervals 28:07 [3] 6.9 km (4:05 / km)
ahr:164 max:187 shoes: Brooks Ghost 11

Ints - 5 x 4 (2) active recoveries.

A decent sesh to kick off winter training for real - took it nice and steady round the corners cos it was pretty slippy about. Felt alright and I guess it’s a nice point to start from

And we’re back. A rubbish run owing to toilet problems. Ankle felt sore over the weekend so just rested it and it felt much better today so think we made the right call

Note
(rest day)

Left ankle really deteriorated on Thursday during the walk with me going over it multiple times. Took this weekend off to let it chill then will shave/tape for training, which starts tomorrow

Cross Training 1:10:00 [3]

Big day. Cycled up a valley to dump the bikes to do 2 big boys munros north of Braemar - 1197m and 1171m. Some really cool tors on the tops which was fun. Returned to the bikes to cycle back down the valley which was a really good flowing descent. Set off at 8:30 and back at 4:30

Cross Training 59:43 [3]

MTB @ Scolty. Gears broke so I only had my three rings at the front and the big ring at the back which meant that any uphill was brutal. Good exercise at least and enjoyed some rooty singletrack
5 PM

Cross Training 45:00 [3]

Squash. Played 3 Lost 3
Pretty humiliating stuff if I’m honest. Not good getting beat by someone three times your age who rarely completes an orienteering course in under 2 hours

Cross Training 40:00 [3]

Squash - Played 3 Won 1 Lost 2
Not bad considering I haven’t played in a year. Forgot how tiring it is.

Also did 2 Munro’s walking today as well (east of glenshee) which was cloudy but fun

33.93km +330m

MTB with the parents from Craigendarroch up to Loch Muick on the landrover track then down the road. Wore ample clothes so enjoyed it. New shoes were unsurprisingly very nice. Not sure how my garmin got a hr considering it was on my handlebars for the duration

CSC Green @ Pippingford Park
2nd +55 secs

A decent race but too many scraps. Should’ve caught Dom at #5 but faffed around with nonexistent earthwalls and lost time on other controls just not having that clinical edge.
Overall good just not enough to beat a strong strong performance from jim. Still, enough for FVO to win and almost make up for the night at the scout camp :)

Running warm up/down 13:37 [3] 2.06 km (6:37 / km) +28m 6:11 / km
ahr:147 max:176

WU with grace and nixon.

In other news, bought some new inov8s today. I say new, they are the exact same make and size as my current ones but if it ain’t broke don’t fix it.
Gonna take a nice chill week to end the holidays and then winter training begins oi oi

Also auto sync doesn’t seem to be working since I re donated for premium hmmmm

JHIs relays @ Donard.
Team 1st. Scotland 1,2,3. Scotland win JHIs
SCENES.

Good shift from 14s and 16s set me out in 3rd behind louis Stan and flurry (dsq). Was cautious on the slopes at the start, again didn’t really understand the map so was super careful. Got caught by Matt at #6 by 35 secs then made a small mistake with him at #9.
On the long leg we went through all the codes and worked out we had the exact same course so then planned all the legs as well together. Sniped all the slope legs then at the top caught a glimpse of Louis and flurry.
Caught them at the end of a horrible (for me) downhill leg to #15, Dropped to the back of the pack at #17 then others hesitated to #18 so I took the lead for a rapid run to the finish, with Louis and Matt in hot pursuit.
Took different rogue routes to the penultimate control and the ecstasy just kicked in when we’d realised we’d done it. Absolute scenes coming in to the finish, just what a result. Nice to get the win as well but honestly it didn’t matter to Scotland. Was so gassed on the run in I forgot to do the kipchoge celebration as well which was pretty gutting.
Another overall win for Scotland - amazing stuff. Big up Matt for the team work on the course and good job to all the team. Defo one of my favourite races I’ve done ever ;))

3rd
Interesting stuff. Very wiggly to #1 then faffed at 2,3,4,5 - just couldn’t make head or tail of the map and got quite confused. Did well in the forest and nailed the big downhill leg then the slope contouring leg.
Kinda let down the performance with 2 mistakes at the end, one was a poor bearing and picking the wrong boulder and one was partly due to the sudden appearance of the boulder field that according to map started much later.
Finished quite annoyed but everyone else had struggled as well so pulled off a decent result :)

Running warm up/down 10:40 [3] 1.82 km (5:52 / km)

Note

Well, well, well. Back from a warm and sunny week in Marseille - was working with a lawyer. Living and working in French for the week was very intense and tiring, was working 9-5 everyday and just felt shattered when I came home.
Tbh have no problem with not running nice to get a rest and recharge the batteries a bit whilst focusing on why I was actually there. Looking forward to JHIs, last time in NI went well for team Scotland...

The Inov-8s are pretty much worn out now, which is fair enough considering they're a year old. Will need to be getting some new ones for winter

Scottish Schools Road Race @ Dunfermline - 7th
Horrible mass start as always - carnage. Someone paused my garmin for around 15 secs as well so this is adjusted.
Kinda settled then up the first hill just found myself at the front with joe and thomas in a beautiful stew mel 1,2,3. Took the next section and slowed down the race to chill things a bit before then losing and once again regaining lead.
After a long hill it was a really short steep hill in which the top 4 gapped and I was now in a 4 person poursuivants pack. Lost ground on the long down but dropped a guy on the last long hill and was with cammy (Wednesday league). Couldn’t kick him on the steep hill so he just got ahead to the finish.

Really fun race, was nice to be so comparatively strong on the hills and control a considerable part of the race at the front which was pretty cool. A solid pace for such a hilly course as well which is promising.
However I have not stopped sneezing since so maybe I’m starting to get a cold... hopefully not but we’ll see
