Scottish champs relay men’s open - 2nd
Much better today- really enjoyed it. Set off in a big group and took a wee lead at the start of the long leg then stuck in behind tam with a few wee forays to the front all the way to the start of the loops at #7.
We split here and the first loop was fine but the first control of the second I was planning on using a path junction as an ap but just didn’t see it so overshot a bit and then the next one got caught in a swamp so lost some time at those two.
Alone after this but was solid through the final loop to the finish. Fair play to AT for holding the FVO flyers off, very enjoyable regardless.

Lordy me. Was doing decent at #10 with only one little mistake then binned 8-9mins on the next two controls. Just couldn’t find it. Kinda lost hope after this and the technique went out the window. Just pissing about really with no motivation, haemorrhaging time on most controls.
Map disintegrated so was glad to be caught by grace near the end. Not even tired when I finished.
So, after I made my huge mistakes, the head wasn’t in it, the heart wasn’t in it, and whenever I went into a reentrant, the control wasn’t in it either. But, I came 3rd. Wow

Was showing face at a world orienteering day event on the killing fields. Had the embarrassment of mispunching the maze whilst wearing my GB kit for a demonstration but got round alright second time.

Would’ve been criminal not to head up the seat on such a beautiful day so did that. Loved it, just the ground was very loose in some places on the descent so went v slow. Nice on the crags as well

Sprint round Linlithgow- not much motivation so was a slow cruise. Very nostalgic running round low port primary which was my primary school from P1-5, which I haven’t been round since!
Actually mispunched again cos of only a few controls having units so went through a tree that I thought would just be a flag but acc did have a unit. Clearly I was in training not racing mode.
2/3 courses mispunched today lol- I’m class

Quite toasty out but felt really good for this managed to stay under 3:00s for 5/6 reps which I’m pleased with. Bit lonely and swallowed 3 flies whilst doing it but had some banging tunes in so it was ok.
Also finished the last rep with avicii again - guardian angel or something.

WD home.
Started off feeling sad when I remembered that I’d drank all the choccie milk at home but then remembered that cos I have my phone I could use Apple Pay.
Weighed up the pros and cons of diverting to Tesco’s to get choccie milk in about 0.06 seconds before, well, diverting to Tesco’s to get choccie milk. Had a scare tho when my sweaty phone and sweaty fingers were doing their upmost to stop apple pay working but I tapped into my inner bear grylls to adapt improvise overcome and wipe my phone. What a cunning plan.
Anyway, we got the prize and this was indeed a joyous adventure.

Also don't know why the garmin gives a total climb of +99m- going off the orienteering map it's 40m vertically from where I start to the top which would therefore be +280m. hmmmm

British Long @ Kilnsey - 2nd
Set off well through the first 5 short controls with only a slight overshoot to #5. Opted for the round and high option on the long leg which worked pretty well- running with Nathan Lawson for quite a bit of it.
Slight miss to #7 and then going up the hill on the way to #8 got off line whilst taking a gel but got back on track at the top. Knew this was gonna be a tricky wan so properly set my bearing for the approach and was nailing it with Stan and grace before popping into the circle and the pit just wasn’t there.
Mega confused and spent at least 2.5 mins scrapping around to see pedley come and spike it in a place where I swear I went to?! Went over the ankle there.
Chased him along the slope, going over my ankle another 4 times which was extremely painful and frustrating as well- sos to anyone who had to hear my grunting and swearing.
Looking forward to my second gel at 55 mins but turned out I had dropped it somewhere- come on woohoo!!!
By this point ankle was shafted and my feet were killing me so was just clinging on for dear life. Actually led into #20 cos I’m a massive weapon but then alistair put in 30 secs on me down the big hill cos I was being an absolute granny- justified tho.
Still managed to drop a 49 300m for the run in- zoom.
Spent the next hour drinking coke in a portaloo but a good result nonetheless just a shame about that silly ol pit

Set off chasing in 4th (?) chasing CUOC and others. Slight hesitation at #2 then lost a chunk at #10 cos of the dodgy description but so did everyone so not too big a deal.
