8 AM

Running 3:15:20 [3] 29.37 km (6:39 / km)

Tour du Mont Blanc Stage 4 with Grace.
Bus to Arnuva before a big climb to the col grand ferret and awaiting Switzerland. Had serious calf cramp at the start and not helped by getting overtaken by some 12 year olds.
After that had pretty much 20km of descent with amazing weather, views and some sick trails in the forest!
Final climb up to Champex which was tough but we got it done.
My longest run ever- such a good time

Wednesday Jul 25, 2018 #

Note
(rest day)

Running the stage again tomorrow so easy today. On another note took a cable car up to 3400m- decided to do an impromptu groundbreaking study into altitude affect on running so sprinted 150m down a tunnel.
Result: altitude makes you feel like you just ran a 12 minute 5km. Who knew?

Tuesday Jul 24, 2018 #

8 AM

Running 2:56:13 [3] 24.56 km (7:10 / km)

Ville de Glaciers- Courmayeur
Sick run with Grace of one of the stages. First 50 mins solid climb overtaking endless Korean people before reaching the Col and entering Italy!
Nice easy down before an absolute bastard of a climb again. Saw a horse here. Made it to the ski station before an insanely steep descent into Courmayeur.
Pretty hot but was eating and drinking lots so all good. Also had to carry the bag for all but 2.7km

Monday Jul 23, 2018 #

10 AM

Running 24:48 [3] 4.46 km (5:34 / km)

Combined WU/WD

Orienteering race 39:58 [3] 7.34 km (5:27 / km)

Gotland 3 Days- Chasing Start
H16 5.6km
5th +6.14 mins to matt - 3rd overall

Setting off in 3rd about 3 mins off 1st and 2nd and had 3 mins to 4th. Spiked #1 which was short and then made a 7 min error to #2. Sloppy compass into an area of flat, featureless forest trying to find a form line depression. Yep.
Faded, caught by 4th, bailed, faffed, found it. Followed for the next 2 before taking the lead on the long leg and nailed it. His path running speed was shit so saw #8 (long path leg) as the time to drop him.
But he fucked up #7 in a technical bit and I got it so went as fast as my wee legs could carry me. Kept it safe for the last few short bearing controls to finish 3rd.
Been there, done it, got the 100 Krona intersport voucher.

11 AM

Running warm up/down 17:11 [3] 3.11 km (5:32 / km)

WU/WD

Orienteering race 20:55 [3] 3.78 km (5:32 / km)

Gotland 3 days Day 2 H16
3.0km 3rd +3.20 behind winner

Not a great run. Messed up 1 a bit, 2 and 3 a lot, and 4 a bit. After that was ok with a few wee scraps but this terrain is so hard to nail. Would’ve liked more as I enjoyed it a lot....

On another note I need a new compass cos mine is wobbly, slow and not up to scratch.

10 AM

Running warm up/down 16:26 [3] 3.07 km (5:21 / km)

Combined WU/WD

Orienteering race 27:22 [3] 4.46 km (6:08 / km)

Gotland 3 days H16
2nd +0.27 to Matt.

Felt good and orienteered well for the most part. Super flat and hard again, a lot of compass. One mistake (2mins) and some general scrappiness so a good result

1 PM

Orienteering 23:58 [3] 3.85 km (6:14 / km)

Orienteering 27:00 [3] 3.0 km (9:00 / km)

Control collecting with ali. Serene pace
10 PM

Note
(sick)

Been having a lot of nosebleeds and headaches in the past few days, coming to a head tonight. Can probably be alluded to a lot of racing, training and travelling with not much quality sleep between. Taking the day off training tomorrow to hopefully let this pass

Need the compass a lot
6 PM

Orienteering 47:18 [3] 6.37 km (7:26 / km)

The most lost I have been in a very long time. One enormous overshoot and lot of other general scrapiness in there. I’ll work this out some time

Running warm up/down (EYOC) 7:49 [3] 1.31 km (5:58 / km)

WU with Tom and Dan

Orienteering race (EYOC) 31:14 [3] 4.62 km (6:46 / km)

EYOC Relay 2nd leg
Team- mispunch
Arena was on a big field plateau as expected, and felt good before going. Much hotter today as well.
Was handed over a fair bit back and matt said be careful at the start. First 4 controls were on a very steep technical forested slope and got all of them pretty much bang on.
Took a round route to #5 with a wee mistake before hitting an area of flat light green forest with only pits. Took it safe and emerged pretty much unscathed. Bit of a mess up at #11 with an undershoot before an overshoot at #12 cos I ran right past the stupid pit.
Through spectator and finished with some more flat green forest which was ok before handing over to Flurry.
Unfortunately Matt mispunched which is a shame but we weren’t really near the top anyway and I can be pleased with a good individual performance.
Great GB debut and fantastic time in Bulgaria!
