Orienteering race 1:25:32 [3] 5.2 mi (16:27 / mi) +684ft 14:38 / mi
slept:8.0 shoes: Salomon Speedcross (2017-Turq)

Red course at Fox Run Regional Park (Rocky Mountain State Games).

Since Tori & Maiya were also in F-21+, I knew I'd be shooting for 3rd place, at best...

Maybe this wasn't the most technically difficult course, but I've managed to have plenty of major time-wasting brain failures on "easy" courses in the past, including on this map. The physical aspect of all the short, steep hills was a challenge for me, but I tried to keep running (even if very slowly), and Attackpoint says I only had 2:03 of lost time -- good enough for a 3rd place medal. :-)

I made a 180-degree error leaving #23, but realized it quickly. And then I left the trail too early on my way to #24 (I think I had intended to leave at the next bend). These errors were both near then end when I was tired...

Great fun overall -- really fun to see everybody & catch up.

Also, I had to loan out my brand-new, never-used SI Air card with customized birthday number to a guy on the Blue course (which had 34 controls -- more than RMOC's rental sticks can handle). I wasn't super-thrilled about that ("what if he loses it or forgets to turn it in?!"). But I caught him at several Red / Blue shared controls and could hear it beeping, so at least I know it works before I go to the Tahoe meet. I finished right after him and was able to grab it back without seeming like too much of a paranoid freak -- I think.

Prep work for tomorrow's meet at Fox Run (buying snacks & water; creating OE2010 files & start cards; email follow-ups; etc.). This took a lot longer than usual because (a) I haven't done it in ~18 months, and (b) I had to use the pre-reg file from the State Games people, which wasn't linked to our membership, SportIdent, or waiver details...

slept:8.0 weight:120.9lbs shoes: Brooks Adrenaline (2021)

LOLA Runners workout at the Aquarius hill.

- Ran a half mile to warm up.

- Up & overs -- I did four laps (eight uphills). Even though I feel really out of shape right now, that's a half-lap more than I've ever done for this workout. But I could tell my legs were DONE on hill #8...

- Ran a half mile to cool down.

When I got home, I had to park on the street since the area to access my garage is getting new concrete. There was a small crowd of people on the street gawking at something -- two juvenile great horned owls on a rooftop. So cool! I was initially mildly annoyed about the parking situation, but I never would have seen the owls if I hadn't driven a half-block past my usual turnoff.

My phone isn't good enough to get a distant owl pic, but I did get this flower at the trailhead.

MTB out & back from home to Hwy 93 (Mayhoffer-Singletree, etc.). Not sure why it was so hazy -- I didn't smell any smoke.
