Quantico Classic Day 2 -- Long / Red course at Beaver Dam Run.

I made an effort to run more today, since this was the last event of the weekend. It was humid, with some brief, light rain; my clothes were soaked by the time I finished -- yuck.

I wasn't especially fast (understatement!), but I was mostly able to navigate according to plan -- except for total brain failure in between #10 and #11. I intended to take the trail heading NNW (using the bend at the stream as my attackpoint), but somehow I ended up on the trail going ESE. WTF?!

Inefficient banana-like route to #12. Finding #16 without issue felt like a miracle. And, even though I started to worry about being OVT, I finished with ~17 minutes to spare and I wasn't even DFL on Red. :-P

A very fun weekend overall! I enjoyed getting to chat with o-friends (except for vmeyer, who seemed so busy that I didn't want to butt in and distract).

After my shower at a nearby rec center, I seriously considered laying down on the locker room bench for a nap -- I had a deeply exhausted, bone-tired feeling (maybe exacerbated by the extra-hot shower and poor sleep last night). But I rallied and made it to the airport.

Quantico Classic Day 1 -- Middle / Red at Beaver Dam Run.

I signed up for F-21+ / Red for this weekend and I planned to mostly walk -- I wanted to find lots of controls, cleanly, not necessarily "race".

#1 through #6 -- not bad!

I went up the wrong ridge to #7, and then down the wrong ridge to #8. (I intentionally took the long way around to #8, to take advantage of the open area and the east-west ride.)

Inefficient, curvy route to #10, but the rest went according to plan.

I had some HUGE, time-wasting errors on this map in 2017, so I was happy with this overall. Too bad I can't seem to be this accurate at running speed. :-P

Quantico Classic Day 1 -- Relay / Leg #2 at Beaver Dam Run.

Valerie hooked me up with Sydney & Kevin Fisher, who needed a third person. They were polite about having an older, slower person on their team. ;-)

I made an effort to run as much as possible, and my navigational accuracy suffered as a result... I got totally disoriented leaving #6 and heading into the open field to #7 -- which was extra embarrassing, since that was the spectator control. :-P

Veered too far to the right of #8. Inefficient to #10.

But -- very fun overall!

Travel day. My flight was delayed by an hour, but I made it to Dumfries in time to get my packet. And then I had an outstanding Ethiopian dinner near my hotel in Woodbridge. I did some snack-shopping for Saturday / Sunday at Wegmans, and then went to bed...
