Orienteering race (Brown) 1:44:06 [5] *** 7.2 km (14:28 / km) +285m 12:04 / km
spiked:14/19c shoes: New Balance 749

Voortrekker Monument.
Had a decent run. Lost significant time on 3 controls and small amounts on 2 others.
#3 was slightly hidden but I should have been more confident - circled the thicket before diving in (1min).
#7 was the mistake of the day (4mins). Seemed to cause problems for lots of people. Planned to take the indistinct path up the hill. Lost it after 50m so was worried about getting through the green. Drifted quite far east but managed to relocate easlily.
Bearing was a bit wonky to #15, was also trying to eat some Super C's so lost focus (1min).
#16 caused problems for everyone (3mins) - 1m boulder in some long grass and I don't think the map was quite right. Luckily had a few other people falling through the grass with me so didn't take too long to find it. Could have been a lot worse.
Lost time on #18. Got stuck in some green then found the cliff but couldn't find the control (2min).
So technically not too bad. Kept the mistakes relatively small (compared to other people at least).

Physically wasn't expecting much. Took the first bit at a very relaxed pace. Suffered a bit after #7 as I ran too hard when I made my mistake. Was very slow up to #11 but had a good route choice so only lost 1 min to Tania. Managed to run the last few legs hard.

Note

Field trip to Sterkfontein Caves. Lots of walking. Legs are always tender the day after physio.

Note

Went to the Physio. The verdict is that my legs aren't coping with speed which explains why they hurt after my 16 minute run but were fine after the 8km. Have lots more strength exercises to do.

Running race 49:12 [4] 8.0 km (6:09 / km)
ahr:174 max:186 shoes: Inov-8 X-Talons 212

Kinetic Trail Run - Randpark Golf Course.
Rather slow but enjoyable run. Left leg isn't feeling 100% so 8km probably wasn't the best idea. Started slowly and kept it steady. Legs held up surprisingly well.
1st lap - 24:25
2nd lap - 24:47
Ran 43:45 in Nov and 44:18 in Feb. So more than 5mins slower :-(

Running 16:14 [3] 2.63 km (6:10 / km)
ahr:155 max:181 slept:9.0 shoes: Adidas SNova Glide

Short blast round the block. Only got home at 17h30 so not a lot of daylight to work with. Good way to de-stress after a busy day.
