Orienteering race 1:06:50 [5] 5.0 km (13:22 / km) +185m 11:17 / km

Second day of West Point National Meet, on the 1993 World Championship map at Lake Welch. Fantastic map, super accurate. Really fun race, I felt more tired than yesterday but may be because it was warmer, plus lots of brambleberry everywhere. But mostly because I am not yet nearly in good shape.

Decent run again, I came in 10th on GreenY (5.0, 185m climb), first in M50, and won M50 for the two days combined. Lost 6:37 according to attackpoint, ran 6.29km according to GPS with 223m climb. Veered a little right on #4, no good reason other than sloppiness. Veered right on #8 through dense green and ended up on a small path, luckily, no excuse for it.

Route choice to #9 was interesting, I considered going right on the paths but thought it was too far, and instead went up on top of Jackie Jones mountain. May have been 1-2 minutes slower, but mostly due to my running out of steam climbing the steep hills, had I been in better shape it would be the right choice.

Sprint and goal on the beach of Lake Welch. Overall really enjoyable!

Orienteering race 1:11:58 [5] 5.1 km (14:07 / km) +195m 11:51 / km

First day of West Point National Meet, at Camp Buckner. Nicely arranged by the cadets, challenging fun terrain and good map. Machine gun fire off to the NE of the map added spice. Ran GreenY (M50), 5.1km, I ran 6.8km according to GPS. Light rain at start, didn't notice whether it continued raining. Decent run except for losing 10 minutes on #7, a small cliff on a slope. I must have passed the control within 10 meters several times without seeing it. Silly mistake, came in 18 on the course and second in M50.

Interesting route choice to #8, I took the easy way by climbing up through the saddle, down the west side and then hit paths and easy open terrain all the way to #8, passing #9 on the way. I think a faster choice than going below the mountain to the south.

Great fun day! Alexandra had a good run too, missed a few minutes but is making less and less mistakes and better route choices.
