Hazelhead DNC on the golf course. Luke and John started literally 30 seconds behind me so ended up just dragging each other round. Boys made a big mistake at #8 so didn’t see them till the very end where I didn’t check direction coming out of 2nd last control and got pretty disoriented with the circular path network, might of even gone off the map ...... felt pretty strong and fast around the course, despite the long legs through the bramble forests. Direction was pretty critical in this area so focused on that and just hitting the right group of trees. The map is still so out of date, there was a control at the end of an unmapped 100m wall in the middle of the golf course. Love a bit of night o

Deeside intervals + WU&WD. Back on the green for winter :(. Pyramid session. Speed wasn’t that bad but didn’t feel good at all, felt really awkward running. Legs were really tight, probs did to much in the gym yesterday. Pete’s bonus reps at the end were a real grind and a poor effort.

Roseisle SOL, 1st W18. Forgot external HR monitor AGAIN. Didn’t warm up enough so slow start. The course wasn’t very technical so could focus on speed. #7 should of aimed off. Hit the ridge in light green but didn’t know to go L or R, went wrong way but luckily bounced off the big track pretty quickly. Got chased by two dalmations on the beach leg which was a bit scary, made me run fast though!

Ben Macdui (2nd highest in UK) and Cairngorm Mountain from the ski centre, 2 Munros. - first 5km was sunny and too hot for thermals! Beautiful views. After the first climb the fog was coming in the started to get a bit more chilly and windy. Put on all my layers. Slow moving over the never ending boulder field but the views from Macdui made up for it. Kirsty had a bit of a stumble, bloody knee and grazed hand but fine to keep going. Visibility got even worse on the way to cairngorm and had to refer to the map a couple times to check we were still on the pretty non existent trail. Didn’t stay on Cairngorm long, 75 winds. Quickly down to ptarmigan and onto the long decent back to decent weather

BASOC night O training Loch Vaa (in the forest)- first night o of the season, just 5 long legs with some good route choice. Made an effort to stay in terrain and go straight on my compass. As expected first leg was a bit wiggly and I was trying to get used to orienteering in the dark again but found the control alright, good attack point. Got into the swing of things after that and felt good and flowing in my nav. C4 I did a bit of a banana and hit the fence which I was a bit annoyed about as that was the ‘easy’ line feature route choice but ended up just following it for the last wee bit of the leg and used the time to plan ahead. Found the open depressions really useful as I could just join them all together. Excited and ready for DNC now, gutted to miss the first one tomorrow night though :(

Windy backroad cycle from landmark to Aviemore with kat and kirsty. Bit scary when we got blown onto the verge on the main road but made it back in one piece

Aviemore leg loosener turned into a wee unexpected hill run up craigellelachie with K. Didn’t feel so great on the first steep section,heavy stiff lazy legs, but felt better around the tree line and fully functioning by the moor. Great views from the cairn. Decent was steady to keep ankle intact over the rocky path. Great start to a week in Cairngorms.

From Gartly through Alford,Lumphanan,torphins then home. Dad kept getting mad we weren’t waiting for him so had to keep it fairly steady. Started to get very cold and bored about 30km in, never really warmed up after that. Thinks it’s time for winter gloves and gear.

Troup house and cullykhan fort - didn’t feel so great at the beginning up the two big slogs but felt better and found some pace up at Troup. Ankle still feeling delicate on the tussocks at the cliffs so stuck to the roads for most of it. Feeling illness free after a week of needed rest, hoping it lasts.
