orienteering race (middle M21) 56:29 [3] 5.3 km (10:39 / km) +190m 9:02 / km
(injured) shoes: Oroc 280 1

shocker of a race! 13 mins of mistakes. would have put me running against Nick - where I thought I would be.
started off reasonably till 4. besides being slow up the hill.
5 I overshot, completely missed the first clearing reentrant, so took a bearing off the second and went 2/3 through the forrest block before realising my mistake. 2 mins lost maybe?
6 I was then out of breath from pixing my mistake, so I was slow up the hill.
7 I overshot to the next rocky knoll, lead astray by two orienteers and a control on that knoll. 3 mins lost running back for it.
8 - was now tired from fixing my mistake.
9 went past all three controls in the vicinity.
10 - went too far left from the road bend attackpoint. struggled with my ankle and the rock hopping. 20-30 seconds
11. ja
12 - tried to drop down to the closest road, but the bracken and boulders were tough - was hard slow going, and then sore running along the road before cutting up to the control. should have gone right - lost 1min to Eugene.
13 overran the controls to the lower boulders, which had a control on them, then went past again to the upper road before going to them - 2 mins lost
14 - really bad control for me. went right to the road, then punched a control on the thicket after the thicket, visited the boulder, then stood on the road where I thought I should be able to see the control, but couldn't. Tim then came round the bottom fo the thicket, punched and ran on... 4 mins lost.
15 - went too high (right) and had to drop down to the control. 20 sec
16 - broken now and walked up through the thick vegetation.
17 - didnt get the win on the run in ;-(

orienteering race (Sa sprint) 12:44 [5] 3.2 km (3:59 / km) +40m 3:45 / km
(injured) shoes: Oroc 280 1

not a bad run, but the navigation challenge was missing, especially with the map being displayed before hand. The first 4 or 5 controls were all fairly obvious as we could see where the runners went, so the first runners were at a disadvantage. there was also very little route choice through the buildings, only one obvious route to follow. My ankle was a bit of a bother, limiting the top running speed. I struggled to run the uphills, especially number 14.

i overshot a route to 11, car was locking the path, and then started heading to 16 instead of 12 for no obvious reason. I realised it soon enoug, so only lost <10s. route choice to 17 was perhaps not the shortest, but I though tit would enable the quickest running. splits say otherwise.
