WA Long Champs at Hill Park Dale. Slightly shaky start, a little careless from attack point into first so when I couldn't see the control to my left where I expected I stood still for a while trying to work things out before taking a step to my left and seeing it. Next couple were easy, then saw Sten ahead on the way to 4 and felt I was probably slightly closer than 2 minutes but not by much. On 5 I didn't really understand the rocks at the top of the hill but thought I would be fine to just drop down and turn right. When I got to what I thought was the last rock and didn't find a control I panicked a bit and just ran around like a headless chook for a while before eventually thinking a little and going further right until I found it. By the time I found it I was getting worried about Tim catching me (I saw him heading to 2 as I headed for 4) so left on the contour rather than up the hill largely to reduce the chance of him seeing me. When I got to 6 I was surprised to have to wait for the control to switch on so wondered what had happened to Sten. I didn't see him until after I finished. Found it a bit of a slog up the hill from 7 through the cape weed so went out of my way to follow some tracks but it got clearer after crossing the fence. No dramas through to the drink control at 11, apart from rolling my ankle a bit on my way down the hill after 9. At 11 I didn't really feel like drinking but felt like I should since someone had gone to the effort of putting drinks out. I struggled to get any water to go down the right hole and then by the time I had emptied the bottle and put it in the rubbish bag I started to doubt if I had punched the control as I ran away. I was fairly confident I would have so continued on a bit further before deciding it wasn't worth the risk and turning back. Split from first to second punch was 57 seconds. The second time I left I had completely forgotten my plan and didn't head out the way I had intended. Eventually settled down and got back under control and the rest of the course was fine (apart from the cape weed on the climb up to 16 which totally broke me). Finished just under 10 minutes ahead of Hadrien for win number 20, from 31 starts.

Planned to catch the bus to work because there were a few showers about when I got up but when I went to leave it was 18 minutes to the next bus and the showers had cleared so I rode the bike very slowly instead.
