6 inch spectating. From aid station 2 over to the conveyor belt and back with a few stops to watch the lead 15 or so runners. A bit shocked at how fast the lead 3 (Gerry Hill, Todd Ingraham, Chris O'Neill) were going. At the 27km mark they were already about 23 minutes ahead of my split from 2008 and probably on track to crack 3 hours. Chris later told me that he broke away at about 30km and had about an 8min lead on Todd with another 8 back to Gerry when they all missed a turn with about 3km to go. They ended up jogging in together in about 3:18 having done more than 46km but without completing the official course. Chris said their half marathon split was about 78min which is crazy fast on that course with the climb at the start.

I felt pretty good running between spectator points and was definitely feeling a bit envious.

Metro Series Thornlie.
Haven't managed to get myself out of bed to run in the morning for a while so thought I would try an afternoon run at the metro series for a change. I knew my heart wouldn't like it so tried to take it very easy from the start and not allow myself to get competitive. Thought I would head for the estate first but once I got in there it looked a bit nasty so I got out again as fast as I could and picked up all the controls around the ovals instead. Controlled the competitive urges pretty well cruising around at about 5:30/km most of the time. Heart wasn't entirely happy but wasn't doing anything too outrageous so I was reasonably comfortable. Punched just behind Ben Dalton at the furthest control and then he popped out 100m ahead of me on the way to my last control. I was very tempted to try to chase him down but when he started walking and looking at his map I realised he must have more to get so I didn't need to. Cruised in for a comfortable win thanks to tRicky's tricky course tricking everyone else a bit more than me.
I like winning.
