Got to City Beach early so I could run a full lap of the course as a warm up without feeling rushed hoping that this would help with my heart. Made it just over 2k before my heart played up. Walked for a while and the heart rate dropped but was still irregular so I tried jogging again from 3k but it was still no good. Walked around, had a few drinks of water and did some drills and strides. Felt ok at times but still enough bad patches that I was pretty sure racing was not going to work.

WAMC City Beach 4k.
Lined up at the start just hoping for a last minute change. When my heart rate hit 162 standing at the start line I thought about walking away but then it dropped to 80 again so I thought I might as well have a try.
Start was pretty narrow so I stood on the grass on the right planning to join the path at the junction with the path up to the car park where you turn to finish at the end of the first lap. On the gun a couple of guys cut in from my right and went pretty slowly holding me up a bit, then when we hit the finish junction a guy on the far left tried to turn right up into the finish instead of going straight on and almost took out the whole front row. Finally settled onto the path and felt good for about 50m but as soon as we turned up hill a little my chest felt really bad and my heart rate had already hit 218 so I decided it was better to pull out and live to fight another day.
Jogged back to the start hoping to grab some of the included breakfast but it was all still under wraps so I went straight home so I could make it to Oscar and Henry's event in time to have a run there instead.

Christmas novelty event. A quick scan of the questions made it clear I was unlikely to get a good result so I decided to just run to all the controls and not worry about the competition. I thought I would make it to all the controls inside the 40 minute limit anyway but I wasn't allowing for how slow I was going with my heart still playing up.

Finally a successful maffetone test, almost didn't try because of my last two failed attempts but my legs felt a bit heavy so I wanted to do something flat.
Didn't worry about really trying to warm up properly this time so it took a little while to get up to the right heart rate. Tailwind going out again but I was a bit surprised how light it was when I turned around and the return time was much closer to the outward time than I expected.

Around KP with some cruise intervals near Hale oval. Feeling pretty tired, not used to doing this much training.
The evil, evil sand hill of evil has had all it's evil washed away and is now the really quite nice hill of firm sand. I think there may have been a bit of rain last night.
