Running long 1:30:47 [2] 16.16 km (5:37 / km) +260m 5:12 / km
ahr:121 max:130 slept:6.5 weight:69.3kg shoes: Nike Pegasus Red

Little Possums loop with a drink stop at Mahogany Creek and my usual bit of deviance towards the end. Felt a bit tired for the first half and heart rate was lower than expected for the whole run. Left heel was sore for much of the second half which was a little odd as I had spent quite a while massaging my right calf before getting out of bed because my right heel/achilles was sore but that was fine during the run. Should have massaged the left calf as well I guess.

Running 32:07 intensity: (1:00 @1) + (21:08 @2) + (2:00 @3) + (7:59 @4) 6.05 km (5:19 / km) +50m 5:06 / km

Failed attempt at 3x2k in 7:20 with 1min rest.
Legs felt empty as I ran down to the oval so I expected I was going to have trouble. Got about half way through the first effort before I gave up. The pace was 3:53/km and slowing so I peeled off the oval and headed for home finishing the 2k in 7:59. The problem was probably at least partly due to running before breakfast after eating almost no carbohydrates for dinner last night.
Got another nutrition lecture from Rachel when I got home.
Maybe I will run the metro series tonight.

Metro Series North Fremantle. Legs felt better but my heart let me down this time. Felt reasonably keen for a head to head race today so I headed off in the same direction as Fletch. Back in about 10th heading into the first control but 3rd coming out of it and hit the lead by the 2nd because Fletch wanted to check every jetty along the way. On the way up the cliffs from 17 to 19 my heart started playing up and I thought I should probably give it up but somehow fletch had disappeared and I had a clear lead so I felt compelled to keep going. Backed off the effort and waited for the pack to catch up but it never happened. Heart rate stayed erratic for the rest of the race but the max of 192 is only 10% above my normal max so not completely out of control. I think the extra beats were kicking in on any slight uphill but stopping and dropping back to a normal rate of around 150 on any downhill. Kind of weird feeling as though I was taking it easy and doing it tough at the same time around the rest of the course. Sten appeared just behind me about half way through but I knew he must have skipped a couple of controls so when he didn't come storming past me I knew I had him covered. Never saw fletch again as he completely butchered it so ended up with a comfortable victory.

ahr:126 max:147 slept:6.0 weight:70kg shoes: Nike Pegasus Red

30min easy, 30min build.
Feeling pretty tired and calves tight. Last 10 minutes (all downhill) felt reasonable, the rest was a bit of a struggle. Heart rate unusually low again. Perfect conditions, cool and still.

Easy 10k loop with a little deviancy towards the end to make it up to an hour. A little tired early but not too bad.

4x1600 in 5:36 with 1min rest
Drove down to Maylands to check the metro series control sites and ran some intervals along the cycle path while we were there. Checked quite a few controls in the warm up so that was a bit slow and stop start.
Got close to the target times on the first two efforts (5:40, 5:39) but it was feeling more like 3k pace than 10k pace and my legs called it quits very early in the third effort so I backed off to what felt more like 10k pace and ended up with 6:10. Started the last at a similar effort and reached half way in 3:05 then finished off as strongly as I could but only managed to bring it down to 6:00. Hard to believe 5:36 felt really easy 3 weeks ago.

Note: Interestingly the unsmoothed heart rate graph shows a distinct spike from 160 up to 167 at almost the exact point during the third effort when I decided I couldn't keep up the pace and backed off. I didn't feel anything obvious with my heart but maybe my arrhythmia did kick in briefly at that point.

Rehab loop with some drills and strides along the way. Slept in a bit so it was quite late but still nice and cool.
