Note
(injured) (rest day)

Out of hospital. Operation apparently went well but they said that last time too. They were able to induce both atrial fibrillation and some other tachycardia fairly easily and were not able to induce it again after ablating. Now just need to wait and see if it holds after healing time.

6 inch spectating. From aid station 2 over to the conveyor belt and back with a few stops to watch the lead 15 or so runners. A bit shocked at how fast the lead 3 (Gerry Hill, Todd Ingraham, Chris O'Neill) were going. At the 27km mark they were already about 23 minutes ahead of my split from 2008 and probably on track to crack 3 hours. Chris later told me that he broke away at about 30km and had about an 8min lead on Todd with another 8 back to Gerry when they all missed a turn with about 3km to go. They ended up jogging in together in about 3:18 having done more than 46km but without completing the official course. Chris said their half marathon split was about 78min which is crazy fast on that course with the climb at the start.

I felt pretty good running between spectator points and was definitely feeling a bit envious.

Metro Series Thornlie.
Haven't managed to get myself out of bed to run in the morning for a while so thought I would try an afternoon run at the metro series for a change. I knew my heart wouldn't like it so tried to take it very easy from the start and not allow myself to get competitive. Thought I would head for the estate first but once I got in there it looked a bit nasty so I got out again as fast as I could and picked up all the controls around the ovals instead. Controlled the competitive urges pretty well cruising around at about 5:30/km most of the time. Heart wasn't entirely happy but wasn't doing anything too outrageous so I was reasonably comfortable. Punched just behind Ben Dalton at the furthest control and then he popped out 100m ahead of me on the way to my last control. I was very tempted to try to chase him down but when he started walking and looking at his map I realised he must have more to get so I didn't need to. Cruised in for a comfortable win thanks to tRicky's tricky course tricking everyone else a bit more than me.
I like winning.

Claisebrook Cove ParkRun. Aim was to start at about 4min/km and then see what happened. Went through the first km in 3:56 feeling about right for 5k pace. Heart started to play up at 5 minutes but the heart rate didn't seem to be changing so I kept going for another couple of minutes just dropping the effort a little to see if it would settle down. It didn't settle down and when we hit a small hill it jumped to 188 so I started walking. Walked and jogged until Bryan Hardy came past and then ran the rest of the way with him to try to help him get under 25 minutes. The guy who was trying to use me as his pacer for the first 5 minutes ended up doing 20:40 but I like to think I could have gone a bit quicker than that.

Walked and jogged over to the broadwalk and did 3 laps of a 1k loop on the bitumen path to the South and back next to Lovekin Dve. No split on the first lap (~5:10), still considering what to do, then two laps keeping the heart rate below 150 until the final little climb (4:36, 4:33). Feeling much better at the end than I was at the start.

Rosalie run. Pretty easy down to UWA chatting to Nic and Dan but by the time we crossed Mounts Bay Rd the pace had lifted enough that I was starting to drift off the back a little and by the time I got to the top of the steps into KP I couldn't even see the rest of the group. Struggled to maintain a run up the last hills to the regroup at the war memorial and was really looking forward to the rest so I was hoping they wouldn't go as soon as I arrived.
Just before we set off Dan asked who wanted to run 4 minute k's. I said I wanted to but didn't think I could. I set off first and pushed the pace a bit thinking I might be able to run with Dan if I could get to the top of the last hill before he caught up. Alison came with me and we kept the pace pretty solid while chatting the rest of the way. Never saw any sign of Dan.
Very humid out there this morning.

Heart had been bad from lunchtime Monday until going to bed last night but has been good since waking up.

Longish run starting with an easy loop in KP then around the river on the first half of the old MAF test course at a slightly faster pace before jogging back to Eva's birthday party at the playground next to Nedlands Yacht Club. Felt as though I was moving ok around the river but there was a good tailwind, I let the heart rate go up to 150 instead of 140 and it was still about 15 seconds/km slower than I used to do in the MAF test. Had a few odd beats every now and then but no sustained arrhythmia.
