orienteering race 1:44:21 [4] 17.25 km (6:03 / km)

Gator Cup Day 1, Classic distance. Had a clue-sheet malfunction at the start of the second loop. Rather than keeping the control numbers sequential, they started over with #1 on the second loop. I forogt to pull out the loop 1 clue sheet. When I got to #1 the code was (apparently) wrong. I spent 3 minutes re-attacking it 3 times before I realized my mistake. And it was a white course control! Little kids kept running by punching it while I ran in circles.

A short, hilly sunset ride on Brad's mtn bike (on the road) before finishing the brake pad replacement on my car. No idea how far we went. There were cows and bugs. Julie made yummy scratch blueberry muffins and brownies.

road run 46:58 [3] 11.5 km (4:05 / km)

Ran down the hill to the bike shop to get a new deralieur cable. Then ran a loop(e) since I was down there.

Note

Went for a hike at the lake in the early evening. Spent some time looking over the old iron furnace area that Ken told me about. There are ruins everywhere! I found the furnace itself...was standing on top of it yesterday and didn't even see it. Then E on the long penninsula (the green one sticking into the lake just above the "L" in Loch here), there are old basements, root cellars, wells, stonewalls, footings - all kinds of stuff. Most of it is pretty overgrown. I've run through there maybe a dozen times before and didn't see any of it. I took a bunch of pictures. Looks like scenes from Indiana Jones. "Throw me the idol, I throw you the whip!"

The first few photos are just of the forest, boulders and frog pond. Also took some shots of that cemetery, which is a contour above the furnace, just before the hill steepens. Its a little hard to date. The earliest dates are in the 1850s, and the latest ones are in the 1930's.
