Ah yes, my lack of aerobic fitness on full display here. Felt awful pretty quickly, in fact never really felt comfy tbh. With Drew for the first 6miles, holding around 3:20/km but not feeling comfy doing so. Last 2 miles solo, uphill and into a dirty headwind. Pace fell off a bit of a cliff and was having some serious doubts about the likelihood of me finishing. Just tried my hardest to stay smooth and not look at pace. Happy I was mentally strong enough to tough it out but definitely a bad day at the office. Haven’t really done any longer tempos on my comeback so this shouldn’t be a massive surprise. Also perhaps gives a bit more of an explanation as to why my 5k performances of late were so dreary. Just hilighting the importance of tempo work as part of 5k+ training. Hopefully will see some improvements as I do more of these in the coming weeks.
