Running 1:38:42 [2] 21.03 km (4:42 / km) +369m 4:19 / km
shoes: New Balance 1080 v9 #2

Chilled pre-breakfast long run round the Marlborough Downs. Never run here but only a half hour drive so decided last minute. Nice change of scenery (rolling chalk escarpments). Ideal place for a long run really, soft surface, not many gates and fairly undulating. Would probably get bored after a while as quite a bleak landscape. Thoroughly enjoyed despite the occasional torrential downpour, felt good the whole way.

Running 31:25 [2] 6.81 km (4:37 / km) +54m 4:26 / km

Quite a late pre-brekkie 30 round Bannerdown. Felt a little bit heavy but not too bad. Pace went up in the middle a bit as I began having a very energetic daydream.

Running 30:01 [2] 6.55 km (4:35 / km) +82m 4:19 / km

Easy 30 double. Felt really crap to start but better by the end. Nothing to report other than that.

Pre reps: 2x4'T [1' float]

Actually made a conscious effort this week to stay well within myself for this tempo. Knew I needed to have good legs going into the reps otherwise I'd just bonk. Felt good, nice and controlled, no fireworks.

Running 26:29 [4] 7.07 km (3:45 / km) +48m 3:37 / km
shoes: Adidas Boston 8

5x1k [3' jog]

These k's were meant to be at 3k pace but thought that would be a big ask on grass in flats with the temperature really starting to hot up. Gave it my best go though and relitively pleased. Long recovery was nice, but didn't make the reps any less grim. Started too fast but managed to hold it together. Fully ham and cheese panini'd by the end. Kept the form right to the end though and all sub 5k pace so a job well done!

(Looking forward to getting on a track to do these kind of sessions)

Running 11:03 [2] 2.01 km (5:30 / km) +20m 5:14 / km

Down - really starting to die in the heat.

Core. Almost dozed off under the warm evening sun.

Spinning 1:13:58 [2]

Rest day ride. Didn’t plan on training today because thought the 30+ degree heat would be too much but after lunch decided a nice hour or so ride would be nice. Cycling is nowhere near as grim as running in this kind of heat so wasn’t too bad at all. Just a little unpleasant on the exposed climbs.

Running 1:02:15 [2] 13.24 km (4:42 / km) +156m 4:26 / km
shoes: New Balance 1080 v9 #2

A sizzling hour along the bridleway. Mid 20s in the shade but probably a lot hotter in the exposed bits. Wearing the old NB’s as I reckon they’re a little nicer for the calf (more drop) and they’ve still got at least another 300km left in them. First half was really pleasant, second half was a bit of a slog as it gradually got hotter. Stomach went and nearly shit myself. Nightmare.

10km Tempo (1k on/1k off)

Wasn’t originally going to do a session as still on antibiotics but saw this as the Pollard session for the week and it mentally looked quite easy so thought I’d give it a crack. Hit paces quicker than I was aiming to hit and kept it nice and consistent. Honest work and happy to finish. Wasn’t too bad as was able to recover decently on the offs allowing me to hit low 3’s on the ons. Stomach cramping a little still. On a 600m loop so likely paces are a couple of seconds out although I reckon being in milage shoes on dewy grass makes them fairly representative. Old man complemented me on my cadence, made me blush.

Down. Top came straight off. Absolutely roasting.

Note
(rest day)

Going to try out a new structure to the week. Rest day Monday and Thursday. Sessions on a Tuesday and a Friday. Gives me a day of easy running between session and long run. The last 2 micro niggle/injurys (call them what you will) that I've got over the last couple of months have come about after my SLR so reckon this switch up could limit "overdoing it."
