JWOC Sprint - 27th - +0:50

An ok performance and just happy to have not completely thrown it away like last year. Was nice and relaxed pre race.First few controls were good slightly over running 3 and taking a sub optimal route to 4. Was good up to 12 and with a good route on the long leg. Was sitting just outside the top ten at this point. Nearly ran to 14 before 13 losing 5s which was very annoying but then was good to spec control. First control out of spectator I got in the circle but then had no idea of the actually control sight. Flustered around a bit finally finding it losing 8-10s. Started to turn the gas up at this point. Hesitated out of 20 then took a slightly sub optimal route to 21 then completely over ran my turning for 22 so had to run the long way round losing nearly 10s. Lashed it to the finish from there. Annoying time loss in the second half but overall not too bad for a technical sprint.

Pre race plod round some middle controls and then 4 x long strides. Legs not feeling particularly zippy but no point worrying at this stage.

(rest day)

Got a dirty massage on the shin last night so taking the day off. Shin feels better though so definitely right decision not to go out and mess it up today.

Some Danish tekkers. Found the controls ok but took some pretty suspect lines. Just getting into the terrain. Shin flared up a little near the end.

Taper Sprintervals round an Army Urban Race.

Really weird map not really sprint spec and loads of places were blocked. Warmed up on the course then went for a 5min effort. Instantly had a tight chest and a headache. Felt like I had no energy. Jogged and walked for a bit before doing another 5min effort at a slower pace but I still felt absolutely terrible. Not sure whats wrong with me. Possible side effects from the Antibiotics combined with the stomach bug still being present. Side effects include nausia so this could explain the headache and the feeling of no energy. All this meant I couldn't really focus on the nav. I'm just going to have to hope and pray that this has cleared up by the weekend. It;s completely out of my control but if I don't improve then there will be little point in me racing.

Nothing has fucking gone right for me this year. Literally as the bell struck midnight on the 31st December 2018 I have had been completely fucked.
First the injury on my left shin, then it got better, then I got the flu, then I got better, then my left shin got bad again, then I got better, then my right shin started hurting, then I got better, then I went on a long as fuck field trip and got ill, then I got better, then I had a tight chest that ended up being a stomach ulcer inducing bacteria in my stomach, then my shin started hurting again, now I'm on antibiotics that make me feel like shit and the stomach bacteria has still not cleared off.

Pretty ideal JWOC prep. All I wanted was a month of good solid running training with no mishaps. Is it that hard to ask? Apparently yes it is!

Spinning 28:49 [2]

Not feeling particularly spritely, might be feeling some very minor side affects from the antibiotics. Just a short one but no fitness to be gained this week so best to keep the leggies in good shape.

Note
(rest day)

Need this. May deviate slightly from my plan, found a naughty little army urban race in an army barracks nearby on Wednesday. Providing the shin feels good I might take the legs out for a spin just as a bit of last minute panic training. Been really lacking technical training in this lead up but it's been mostly out of my control. Will just play this by ear.

Note

Got the blood test results back. Tested positive for H.Pylori bacteria which lives in the digestive tract and causes abdominal pain. This is a huge relief that I've found out what's wrong with me. On a week long course of antibiotics which will hopefully clear it up in time for the sprint on Sunday. Bitter sweet, very happy I'll be fit for the races but this stomach bug has compromised my training in the past 3 weeks. Ah well, gotta roll with the punches.
