Seat Long Run. Think this is the first time I've done over 20km on the seat. Felt good all the way round so pushed a steady pace on the climbs and then was easy everywhere else. Didn't bonk which was an added bonus. Starting to get more comfortable with longer stuff.

KF Session: 3x9min (2)
Generally a good session. At the front of the pack wit Alex for the first 2 reps feeling pretty strong and controlled. Developed a stitch at the start of the last rep, managed to keep a good pace up until 4muns to go, then the pace dropped off slightly. Bit frustrating because legs actually felt really good but happy to complete the whole session.

Scottish Unis Relay
Set out about 30s behind Todge and about 20s in front of Ali on last leg. Didn’t see anyone for the first loop but saw Tom about 100m I front at the spectator with Ali just behind me. Latched onto Tom and slowly reeled him in. Made the overtake about halfway ground the second loop. Then just pushed on. Took a shite route to 23 but Todge followed so we both lost the same amount of time. Just a filthy burn up to the finish. Just about managed to hold him off but was overall good craic!

About 30mins after the relay, not really sure why I started because wasn’t really feeling it. Just plodded about at a steady pace. Upped intensity a bit when I saw Sasha, then almost caught finn and max before dropping it on a slippy wooden bridge and snapping my compass in half. Sasha came past and I just followed him for the last 5mins. Not a very fun experience, was very cold and wet and think I now have pneumonia

Steady with Tom out to the coast and along the promenade. Bit longer then planned and this became an issue because running on a very small breakfast and nothing else. Felt nice and comfortable for the first 13km. But the last 3km were uphill and into wind so wasn’t very pleasant. Aswell as this I was starting to get quite hungry. Felt more like a tempo for the last 10mins despite the pace being lower.

A classic KF Session. Lovely big group of boys out tonight which was nice. Running with this big pack for the first 3 then most dropped and just left me Sasha and Alex as well as mr bloor nipping (Or in this case spitting) at our heals. Pace was faster than normal and admittedly was slightly above threshold pace but managed to hold form. Overall pretty happy and didn't have a headache which was good.

FRA Relay Leg 2 with Mr Masson
Set off in joint 1st with Keswick (Carl Bell/Mark Lamb). I was a bit hesitant to go with them but Ali quickly re assured me that “we are better than you think Nobs.” With those wise words in my ear I glued myself to the Keswick pair. Sadly it quickly became obvious that we weren’t going to maintain the pace so dropped off about 10mins into the climb up Great Rigg. Ali took the lead around this point. I didn’t feel very good, legs were fine but chest was a bit tight and I had a headache, it was nice that Ali wasn’t feeling to great either so we could suffer together. Got to the top of Great Rigg glues together. We got passed just before the top but there was nothing we could do. After a quick flat section we began the climb up Fairfield. This was much better felt stronger and got into a nice rhythm. Created Fairfield ready for a 6km gentle decent back to the finish. Sadly I hadn’t read the course description. We took a sharp right down an absolutee cliff. The decent was covered in skippy sharp rock with some rather large drop offs. I just didn’t have the balls for it. This section was only about 5 minutes but I think I lost us 30s. Ali has to slow up to account for my wetness. I was happy to see the end of this. 4km of gentle downhill left. Hit the hammer on this managed to just keep with Ali and we finished hand in hand. Not particularly proud of this but got the job done. A little bit worried about the headache on the climb and annoyed I had to walk so much of the climb. But set the boys out in 3rd and only lost 3.5mins on Keswick and 2mins off second on the leg.

Pentlands Skyline - 9th
Happy with this, really didn't expect anything close to this time. Started with Tim, Tam and Ali. Got to flottlertone feeling ok. Going up Turnhouse I noticed sasha had stopped and waited for us (very kind of him). So very wisely I latched onto the back of him. At the top I had a 50m gap on Tim and Tam. The wise this to do here would be to wait, but I didn't because I'm not very wise. Managed to stay ahead of them right up to the kips which came as a bit of a surprise. Ran with these 2 lovely blokes over hare hill, then got spat on the decent because I have shite terrain tekkers. Just about caught them again by the top of Black hill, before swiftly getting dropped on the following decent. Mr Masson came flying past me at the bottom of Bell's Hill. I now started to feel the bonk but kept grinding away so Ali only had a 50m gap at the top. Basically from here to the finish I suffered a huge amound but maintained the gap to Ali until the final decent where he pulled away a bit more. Very happy to be mixing it with the Dalkeith trio, although I did fell like a bit of a 4th wheel at time ;)

JEC Mass Start Long - 29th (Should have been top 20)

Basically there was some out of bound and lots of people ran through it. So the course ended the control before that leg (Makes perfect sence that). Promise I'm not Salty. Anyway on with my race... Made around 2mins of mistakes in the carnage of the first loop. Came through the first map exchange (15mins in) in 26th. Next loop was scrappy but with less mistakes, came through the last map exchange (30mins in) in 16th, and surrounded by a solid packs of swedes and swiss quys. Messed up the first control of the long final loop by 2.5mins and again the next control by 2.5mins. Very annoyed at this, literally just had to follow but tried to do my own this. Anyway this dropped me from 16th to 41st in the space of 4 controls. On the next long leg section 20-21-22-23 I put the gas down and climbed 12 places. I was quite happy to match the pace of the group I'd lost at the start of the loop in this section of control (however I was 5mins down on them). Then onto the final leg. I saw a path option but quickly realised it was out of bounds, so took the straight option down to the lake. This worked, I climbed 2 place and just pipped Tom to the finish (who was running with that group I'd lost earlier. Soon after finishing I was told many people had gone out of bounds along the track and gained massive time. Eventually the decision was made to finish the course before the long leg. This meant I lost out massively as my route counted for nothing. Just think if youre going to void the critical long leg of the course, you may aswell void the entire course. You cant win JEC long at control 23 thats just not a thing. Apologies for my minor rant.

Quite relaxed going into this. Made a stupid parallel into 1, losing 1:30mins. Then started a shit route choice on long leg to 2 before stupidly bailing. Lost 2mins from this. Didn't let it get to me. Just plodded on, was scrappy but no ore huge mistakes. Just was careful not to ruin myself in this absolute minefield. Finished happy that I'd enjoyed myself and come out of the forest with an acceptable (but not good) result.

Not happy with my run but good team performance. Fiona put me out in 2nd. Good to 1 and 2 leading the pack up the hill to 3 and feeling good. Got a bit stuck in the woods which dropped me to the back of the lead pack. Sat there up to 7 then thought I spotted a quicker route choice. Wasn’t good meant I lost contact with the pack. Just trudged round the rest, lost motivation and legs just went pop. Not a great day from a personal point of view. Came back a disappointing 9th. But Fred ande laurw got is back up to 6th.
