EUOC Seat long run. Horrible conditions, just constant rain and some strong wind but at leastit wasn't too cold.With the standard crew for the first 65mins then just me and good old Tam for the last 40mins. Felt good and strong the whole way. Few complaints, not hint of a bonk but in the words of pedley, "my L calf was a bit tight."

Another good session. Running at the front with Alex and Sasha. Alex was pushing the pace which made things quite hard but stuck in there. Had a stitch for half the session but managed it well so that it didn’t cripple me. Another good one in the bag!

East League XC - Broxburn
Went off fairly chill but still found myself near the front. At the top off the lungbuster first time round found myself momentarily in the lead side by side with Bash. Didn't last long as Bash and Christoforou made a bit of a break which I decided/physically couldn't follow. Jonny made a 10m gap near the end of the first lap on the decent, which left me in a group of 4 fighting for 4th. Just fixed my eyes on jonny through the second lap, maintaining around a 20m gap. Without meaning to ran away from this group meaning I was solo coming into the last lap. Tried to close the gap to Jonny and could see sasha up infront aswell but just didn't quite have the strength. A stitch in the final stages confirmed my 4th place. Still quite happy with where I finished and with my run.

Wanted to stretch the legs out after yesterdays monstrous plod. Just went for 5 laps steady round the meadows. Weather was fairly grim but just zoned out and ticked off the miles. Legs took a while to get going but was soon just rolling 3:45s feeling comfortable.

Seat Long run going up all the dirty climbs. Started badly, went for an effort and paid for it by depositing my lunch at the side of the path. Felt really shit for the next 30 mins but then peeled up. Just kept plodding up the climbs aiming for that 1000m. Eventually it was just myself and Ali going up the crags and the steps to summit the seat for the 5th time of the day to achieve our goal.

Cold, drizzly and very windy. Long sleeved was definitely a good choice. Felt good all the way through. Running at the front and feeling comfortable which was nice (taking a fair amount of wind due to sasha and Alis stomach issues). Average pace was higher than usual again which was nice especially with the wind and rain. Pushed a bit harder on the last 2 with sasha. Definitely not threshold on that last one but all good work ;) One of the most solid sessions of the semester so happy!

Braids 2018
Started chill which put me quite far back in the pack. Worked my way up the field on the first lap. Got up to 7th by the top of the hill. Overtook a couple of people on the decent along side finlay so was in 5th. Got away from finlay around 5mins later and was by myself. Could already feel a stitch coming so tried to stay as relaxed as possible. The legs felt good but the stitch was only getting worse. Managed to get up the climb the second time around but by the top the stitch had started to affect me. Had to really hold back on the decent. lost a place to a Glasgow guy. Had to really control myself, couldn't push at all so that stitch didn't become crippling. With about 1km to go having lost probably around 20s the stitch seemed to ease so I could push again. Got into another battle with a rather fast (sub 15 5km apparently) guy. Sadly I didn't quite have the kick and got pipped on the line. So finished 7th in the end. Place and time improvement on last year (which was a very good run at the time), around 25s quicker. Just a little frustrating, I know I could have been a fair bit quicker. Still an alright performance and it shows I'm in decent form. Top Harie aswell which was nice.

Originally planned to do a lap of the seat but took ages to get satalites so Tom ran on so that Max wasn't kept waiting at KF. I hatched the cunning plan once satellites had been gained to run the other way round the seat and meet them. This went well except I didn't take into account the darkness of the seat so coming over dragons back was a bit of a minefield. Could feel shin all the way but didn't get worse. Had a meal deal fresh in the stomach aswell so feels weren't all good.

Long run round B & B. Solo for most apart from a brief couple of kms with the EUOC ladies which was nice. Chilled for the first half to see what shin was doing. It seemed fine so pressed on a little bit in the second half aswell as extending it out to 90mins. Finished feeling better than when I started which was nice.

Another good one! Not sure how this was going to go with the shin and having a bit of a cold but thought I may aswell give it a crack. Was running at the front with Carcas, Ali and Peter. Felt a little shit on the first 2 reps but with a bit of encouragement from the others I carried on. Felt better on the 3rd rep. Sadly lost Alex on the 4th (RIP) and peter started a bit further back so it was up to me to illuminate the headtorchless Masson. This was a hard task but just managed it. Last rep flew by all good with a cheeky burn up in the last minute. Then it was done. Good wan in the bag.

Easy Lunch Ride

Started with a lap of the seat then headed out to Musselburgh. Wasn't nearly as scenic as yesterdays ride but still anything is better than spinning in the gym. Just kept it chill. Wiggled my way back using cycle way signs for guidence. Will hopefully be running either later today or tommorrw (see what the physio says).

Just wanted to rest the shin, no point in killing myself. Quite a nice route out to Gladhouse Reservoir. Was quite a lot of traffic on the way out which wasnt great but once we got onto some quieter roads it became really enjoyable. Felt good but took it nice and chill. Will probably cycle tomorrow and maybe go for a jog before seeing the physio.

Scottish Short Course XC
Not expecting too much tbh, knew I'd struggle a little bit over the shorter distance. Probably went off a bit hard, went past Jonny and finlay inside the first km when I probably should have sat in. Felt the legs starting to go near the end of the first lap. Finlay and jonny came past. Just ground it out to the finish but couldn't hit a good enough pace. Just maintained position on that last lap but would have liked to move up the field. Still not a disaster and pushed myself all the way. Just lacking the efficiency at the top end speed but I'm sure that will come.

Chilled lap of the seat just escaping the darkness. Felt nice and easy. Bit of a concern, my left shin/calf area was quite tight (similar area to spring injury). I've noticed this a couple of times this week. It's not painful or even uncomfortable but I was getting quite anxious on this run because it didn't really subside. I was always aware. Will run short course tomorrow, see how it is and then go from there. It's nothing serious right now but don't want to make the same mistakes as last time even if it does mean taking 2 or 3 days off.

Very nice, felt a bit sick to start off with because lunch hadn't digested but soon got into things. Not the biggest turn out, with Andrew for the last 30mins or so which was nice. Didn't bonk and just getting more comfortable in long runs now. Good stuff.

Really happy with this session. Got faster on each rep. Started with 3:23/km average for the 1st rep and finished around 3:15/km. Running with Sasha all the way apart from the last minute where I got full bent over and violated by the man. Also with Alex for the 1st 3 reps and Dan for a fair amount (He'll probably be away in the distance by next week). Close to getting a stitch the whole way round but managed to keep it away. Happy with the form currently just need to be careful no to push it over the edge, the last thing I want is an injury.

Long Run in Pentlands.
Good little group going out, just did bits of the skyline loop. Legs were a bit sore from yesterday but not to bad. Took the first few climbs nice and easy, then went a bit more steady on the last few. Good fun but feeling a bit trashed now so will need to take a rest day tomorrow.

Scottish Unis XC - 6th

1st xc race of the season so very excited for this one. No idea what to expect so just took it nice and chill off the start. Didn’t feel great to be honest. Formed a group around halfway with Ali, Cam, Finlay T, and another harie boy. I just sat in because I already felt quite tired. Finished the first lap tucked into this group. The pace kept changing but nobody really surged properly. Onto the second lap. Again felt quite bad so just sat in, just wanted to hold onto the group until the finish because didn’t feel I could go. Most of the second lap was uneventful, I could see Alex and Sasha pull far away. Then just as we started the final lap I began to get a stitch. Thought it was game over at that point. We rounded the first corner into a headwind and the pack slowed down. Don’t know what was going through my head but I just surged hard. I was thinking to myself “why am I doing this.” But just ignored it and kept grinding away keeping my foot down for the next km. I was suddenly then on the back of the guys in front. Didn’t tuck in just kept the gurn in and went straight through. Didn’t look back, picked off a further 3 positions, then soon the finish was in sight. Just kept grinding all the way to the line. Got quite close to Jonny and Sasha by the end. Finished absolutely ruined but really happy with the run. Never really run a tactical xc race but it seemed to work well!
