Tour champs at Glen Dye

Set off quite well with a little wobble at #2 but then nailed all controls till #7 where i lost 10 mins because my direction was too far right so i ended up just missing it and then wandering around, going back to #6 and then going past it on slightly and runnung back beacuse of some green. Lost 2 mins on #13 as i came too far left in the marsh and had to run through the marsh to get to it. On the long leg going to #14 i picked up the wrong ride so ended up too far down the hill on the track but then managed to run up the track and find it easily. Also came too low on #17 but didnt lose too much time.

Forest sprint relay - was running with Sarah P ~ nailed all controls apart from #7 as the open was not correct so we ran past the open area where the boulder was. Took a bearing to the start and the managed to re locate off that. Good fun for the last exercise

Scolty training

Downhill control pick exercise - jogged up to the start of the course. Focussing on sighting and planning ahead, very easy on the v nice top part of Scolty but made a mistake on #7 as i got pushed off by the green. Then on #10 i didnt look up so ran right past the control

Pairs exercise with Anika - only managed half the course as anika hurt her foot. Hit all my controls but were slighty off on #3 as we were contouring more than going straight up

Czech relay with Dan - Control numbers didnt match which confused me at #4 (my first control) but then i reached the second start first. On the second loop i nailed the first set of legs but then completly messed up #7 & 8 on the third set as i was distracted

Tyrebagger training

Control flow course (backwards) - hit the first 4 controls smoothly and had a goid pace going but then #4 was in head high bracken so went off line but managed to find it. Then #3 was grotty as i had to go through the bracken to reach the path. After that it was a bit smoother but still not that nice

Short train - with Edlidh & Rona ~ couldnt find #1 as the control had fallen from the tree so Rona caught me but then i found the next 2 easily. I put out the controls on the second loop which was quite easy and then collected them on the last loop. Ran past #8 as the hill was v small

Thursday Aug 4, 2016 #

Training at Balmedie

Compass exercise - with blanked out parts of the map. Had good compass bearings although it was hard to stick to them. Messed up 3 controls by going off my bearing slightly but one control was in the wrong place.

Corridor exercise - managed to stck well to the line (had to go off to avoid veg and river). Ran passed 1 control - need to remember to look up!

Another compass exercise - only had the map detail in the control circle with everything else balnked out. (Shadowed by Rona) looked up for #1 and nailed it but then slipped up on #2 because i didnt stop and re do the plan and rushed off but then nailed the rest.

Clock relay w/ Tom W - Good orienteering, quite tired from the dunes but managed to keep a good pace and get all the controls in the right place.

Night O at Newmillhill

Went round fairly slowly with Edlidh so that we could do 'talk - o'. Managed to hit most controls apart from:

#4 because we were too far up the white ride so just needed to look up as we were getting up closer to the control
#7 the control didnt look like it did on the map
#10 & 11 we came too far right on both

There were also a lot of extra paths that werent marked which was a bit confusing

Actually ran 5.5 km

Wednesday Aug 3, 2016 #

Coull today,

Picture exercise (1.2km) - quite tough to run but navigation was good

Another picture (1.1km) - shadowed by Rona - Bit too right on #1 and then map was not correct for #2 but then nailed #3 & #4

Contours only - hit all controls but needed to simplyfy things more

Another contours only - shadowed by Phil- good navigation but was quite tired so was a bit slow.

Draw your own map- got a blank map with only the course on and had to draw on any features from another map to get up rounf the course

Night odds and evens relay thing. Me, Sarah P and David came 1st!

Managed to hit every control that i did so was happy with that, quite fast and not that technical but was fun

Tuesday Aug 2, 2016 #

Training at Sluie

Attackpoint course (backwards) - managed to hit everyone apart from #2 as i had a bad direction coming from the fence line

Long & short legs - need to remember to plan ahead! Got to #2 and didnt know where to go to get to #3

Norweigan style map memory - didnt know where i was going to #3 so had to look at blank map but then managed to find the others smoothly

Good sprint around Templars, was racing but felt quite tired. Came 2nd to Edlidh by 30 seconds

Micro sprint around Templars. Managed to cone 1st despite punching the wrong control and then re doing half the course to punch the right one!
