Orienteering race (Poole Town urban SEOUL) 44:34 [4] *** 8.74 km (5:06 / km) +21m 5:02 / km
ahr:153 max:167 spiked:18/26c

Course 1, Nominal 5.7km

Back to my old, blunder-tastic self. Felt like I threw away some good ranking points today (although maybe only a couple of SEOUL points as not many vets entered) with some daft mistakes.

+40s to #3 (caught on wrong side of fence/alleyway), 20s to #4 (went R instead of L), 10s dither to #8, +20s to #19 (dithered to find a shortcut), +30s to #20 (looped around), 110s to #21 (Q: Why am a standing next to ctrl 64 on a lampost, when I'm looking for 74 between two buildings? A: Because you're reading the wrong ctrl description dummy!), 60s to #26 (started down the wrong road) = 4:50 of mistakes, rubbish.

Caught by an M21 at #5 after my poor start, we then leapfrogged distractingly and I'm pretty sure he cut through an OOB estate to #13 - I should've been able to see him on the road ahead after the corner at #12 but he magically appeared from the R of #13 as I turned into the paved area to punch it - although he denied it at the finish, tsk. (I discovered he was a local, so probably cut through there without even thinking about it.)

Result: 7th/24 on course 1 ( http://www.wessex-oc.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/eve... ) (4th/14 vets http://www.wessex-oc.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/eve... )

At least I got up early enough to beat the jams to the south coast - the queue south to the first Bournemouth junction must've been 15 miles long by the time I was on my way home, daft. Do these people not know that it was forecast hot + sunny all over the south of England today?

Orienteering race (TVOC Saturday Series) 24:36 [4] ** 5.07 km (4:51 / km) +18m 4:46 / km
ahr:157 max:168 spiked:16/20c

Nominal 4.0km

A bit of a scrappy run. First of 3 races in 24h (a 5k this evening and Poole Urban tomorrow to come) so not keen to go mad: ran steadily and didn't completely 'switch on' to the navigation. Wrong path, S instead of SW, out of #2. Baulked by slower runners (and a v cautious small child!) to #5, doubled back down what looked like a dead end, but wasn't, for #6, twisted my knee into #9, hesitant to #18, overran the alleyway for #20.

Result: 1st/53, wow. Maybe noone else likes running in the heat as much as me.
