BKO 'Concorde chase' at Barossa. Brown, 9.7km, 28c. Slightly intimidated to be first off the start. Completely foxed myself on the run to #3 - seemed to take a wrong bearing out of #2 - wanted to head N, but ended up running E :-( and ended up on a path I wasn't expecting to see. Took nearly 15 min to relocate by which time I realised it was game over. (When I eventually got there #3 seemed to be in the wrong place, although that's largely incidental!). Just trundled around the rest of it taking fairly safe routes which mostly went OK, but had trouble finding #14 on a hillside covered in bracken and ran straight past #25 (in a drainage ditch) before doubling back to find it. Annoyed with myself, I seem to find the thumb compass a hindrance on wet days when the map is a bugger to hold/fold and wonder if I'd be better off with a fancy wrist compass? At least my new EMIT card, picked up today, is nice and quick to register at a control.
