Note
(sick)

Have come down sick. Still managed to go do some training near Asiago on the 5-days event map.
4 PM

Orienteering (Asiago - Turcio) 37:00 [3] 3.0 km (12:20 / km)
shoes: Inov-8 Oroc 280 #2

Asiago - Turcio : Day 1 of 5 days of Italy

Started 30 mins late. Picked up my map and went from 1 - 15. Feeling sick, so only wanted a taste of the area. Quite technical, limestone terrain with some WW1 trenches. Made many messups.

Orienteering warm up/down 10 [3] 1.0 km (10 / km)
shoes: Inov-8 Oroc 280 #2

Warmup to the start.

Orienteering race (Burano - Mazzorbo) 16:28 [5] *** 3.7 km (4:27 / km)
21c shoes: Salomon 3D S-Lab Red #4

WOC Sprint Qualifications - Burano : 1'4000 map

This race wasn't my focus for WOC, which instead would be the Long Distance. Used it as a good tuning prep and also because it is a WOC. :-)

Started with Marten Bostrom and Guy Szabo. Hit the first 5 controls very well and at good speed and left the Mazzorbo island right behind the others, which wasn't good for Marten (he missed qualifying). First mistake was a weaker route choice to #9, and then started loosing speed from 9 to the finish as I ran out of sprinting gas.

Matjaz Stanfel +1 started catching me here and I pulled him wrong when I made a mistake to #12 where a passageway was weirdly marked. I saw it, but didn't identify it as my passage. From there okay but slow to the finish. Not much more I could have done except be 2+ minutes faster in speed. :-/

Finished 34th out of 40. +3:42 on heat winner, so 129%.

Orienteering warm up/down 15:00 [2] 2.0 km (7:30 / km)

Orienteering (Venice) 10:36 [2] 1.5 km (7:04 / km)
shoes: Salomon 3D S-Lab Red #4

Ran around the sprint model map for WOC. Not too strenuous, just trying to stretch the legs. Logistics of traveling between the mountain, our hotel in Jesolo and Venice are tough.

Orienteering race (Pfaffikon Irgenhausen) 16:25 [4] *** 3.1 km (5:18 / km) +65m 4:48 / km
28c shoes: Salomon 3D S-Lab Red #4

Sprint race around part of Pfaffikon SG. Nice area and fair planning. Ran the H35 course again.

Early mistake on the way to #1 when I miscounted road junctions and turned off the first junction instead of the 2nd. Lost about 30s or more. Otherwise only small errors in route choice that could have saved a second or three.

Map exchange after a neutralized road and railway crossing proved interesting as we were suprised with a Micro-O course in an old Roman fortress. I'd read the control description ahead which helped with some decent speed. Nice and complex and a good way to finish the race.
7 PM

Orienteering race (Chruezlen) 1:02:45 [4] *** 7.0 km (8:58 / km) +220m 7:45 / km
30c shoes: Inov-8 Oroc 280 #1

Longish distance evening event, part of the Zurich-region 6 days. Ran H35 for a slightly shorter course than HAL.

Made a few small errors and 1 big one. Some technique ironing to be done in the next few days.

Otherwise not a nice forest with plenty of brambles and green. Quite a bit of path running and in-and-out controls. Four neutralized road crossings with time taken out for these splits.
