ORIENTEERING race (OMM Day 2 - 5th Place) 3:31:00 [5] *** 22.5 km (9:23 / km) +780m 8:00 / km
shoes: X-Talon 212

A good ish nights sleep was a bonus and we were in the chasing start, off at 7.06 am, only 6 mins behind the leaders Barrable and Crickmore.
We'd got them in our sights by the 1st control but they chose a different route to them after that. We were running much faster as the terrain was a lot better, space to fit your feet in next tot he tussocks rather than a hole full of water!
Good speed round the end we chanced some extra points and a huge hill to finish - and we thought we were overcooking it! We didn't and probably undercooked it being the first finishers on the OMM 2009 and having just under 30 mins to spare!
An amazing descent of the last hill in under 15mins was a great end to the weekend and some lovely veggie soup at the end. Perfect. Even got on the OMM podcast as the first finisher!

Event: The OMM

ORIENTEERING race (OMM Day 1 - 10th Place) 4:41:00 [5] *** 27.0 km (10:24 / km) +990m 8:48 / km
shoes: X-Talon 212

1st OMM Day, Felt good at the start after an annoying fire alarm at our B and B at 6am!
Starting late there were quite tracked areas and some not as we were on the score and lots of people hadn't gone our way...
After a quick glance of the map we'd not knowingly sealed our fate to get less points than the leading teams at the end of the day by heading south to collect points in quick succession rather than head towards the high scorers... still we breezed throught the first 10 km in less than 80 minutes and trundled onto the toughest terrain i think I've ever seen. Knee high tussocks, raging wind and a lovely layer of waterlogged mud underneath to top it off.
Got knackered in the middle and managed to pick Jon up at the end as his legs had given up over the most waterlogged bit near the finish!
Still a good day and sort of happy with the run but not the points!
