Thursday Nov 29, 2007 #

Note

still a bit bunged up... can't seem to shake it.

...but on the other hand I enjoyed watching Shrek 3 last night with the girls avec le chocolat et vino.

Tuesday Nov 27, 2007 #

Still got a cough and lots of yukky stuff coming from my nasal passages. Nice. Might go for a jog later.

ORIENTEERING (Collecting Controls) 45:00 [4] ****

ORIENTEERING (Lakeside Hanging) 1:45:00 [3]
shoes: OLWAY Tigers

Hanging at Haverthwaite and Bigland for Lakeside with Wil.

Quality areas, pity about the weather. Lovely control sites though and really enjoyed being a part of the coaching team again. Need to do more in the future.

ORIENTEERING race (Night Sprint) 23:18 [5] *** 2.4 km (9:42 / km) +170m 7:10 / km
spiked:15/19c shoes: OLWAY Tigers

Night sprint around Lakeside. Hector did 15.36ish in the day and I cocked up the night sprint totally as the battery kept on slipping out of the holder and couldn't really tell what was crag and what was earth in the dark.
Nice planned course by myself.

Friday Nov 23, 2007 #

Note

Travel to Lakeside with Wil - we were going to hang controls but Derek talked to us about dying in the forests so we didn't.

Thursday Nov 22, 2007 #

Note
(sick)

Not feeling too great againg but heading out to Eccy to tape some control sites.

ORIENTEERING (Taping Courses) 1:30:00 [3] **** 12.0 km (7:30 / km)
spiked:56/58c (sick) shoes: OLWAY Tigers

Taping all the controls for the ShUOC Chasing Sprint. Wow this is going a really good race I think - it's high paced, lost of twists and turns and actually quite runnable! ooooo excited!!! Also found a couple of crap controls but hey they can be changed with Charlies approval!

Wednesday Nov 21, 2007 #

Note
(sick)

And again - but feeling better after Lemsipping my way to health.

BIKING intervals ('7 Hills' Cameraman) 45:00 [3] ** 6.5 mi (6:55 / mi)
(sick)

I felt a little better this afternoon so went out and biked round the new course of the '7 Hills Race' of Sheffield shouting abuse at the runners (i mean encouragement) and took some really blurry photos. Its dark now. :-(

RUNNING (Stretching) 10:00 [1]

ORIENTEERING race 54:00 [4] *** 7.2 km (7:30 / km) +240m 6:26 / km
spiked:21/26c slept:5.5 shoes: OLWAY Tigers

Linarce O (DVO) Brown Course.
Brambles and steep in places (nearly died on one of the controls falling into a pile of sharp rocks) apart from that, twas good. My mate Steve planned the courses - a little different from the originals due to controlling power crazyness. Nice course with sharp twists and turns. Made a mess fo those controls where the map didn't really represent the ground. i.e. shallow depression at edge of clearing; the depression was over 50m from said clearing. But that's just the map for you. Miserable day and nice to get out.

RUNNING warm up/down 15:00 [1]

Freezing and rain to warm up and down so didn't really do much. Does shivering count?

Note

The weather sucks.

Saturday Nov 17, 2007 #

RUNNING 38:00 [2] 6.0 km (6:20 / km) +150m 5:38 / km
shoes: Highlanders

With Haze from Plantation up to High neb and back in the worst wind ever. Met with Jon, Steve, Jame and Jonny for a quick boulder - then didnt bother as they had gone by the time we arrived.

Friday Nov 16, 2007 #

RUNNING (Rivelin Road and Track) 45:00 [4] 10.0 km (4:30 / km) +310m 3:54 / km
ahr:168 max:180 slept:8.0 shoes: Hardrocks

Different run this time - and running solo in the morning for the 1st time in a long while.
Springvale - Crookes - Crosspool - Rivelin Valley - Stannington Towers - Rivelin Valley - Bole Hill - Springvale

Actually went on paths i've never been before and I'm getting a bit pissed off with dogs. Lovely temperature for running though..

Note

DOGS

- in Venice there were a lot of lose dogs and they were 'ok' as most were being called back - Bole Hill on the other hand is where idiots in Sheffield seem to walk their dogs. Got jumped and nearly bitten twice. I wonder how the owners would like it if I jumped all over them and tried to bite their arms off??

DOWNHILL

also after running on the roads so much at the moment I've lost the ability to run on anything uneven especially downhill or covered in leaves... need to work on that!

RUNNING warm up/down 15:00 [1]

Stretches and warm up/down

Thursday Nov 15, 2007 #

Note
(rest day)

Not been training as its dark and cold. Oh i hate winter.

Tuesday Nov 13, 2007 #

CLIMBING (Bouldering) 1:30:00 [3]
shoes: Boreal Jokers

Purple and Browns this week - they are pretty hard but me Jon, Jeni and Kate enjoyed it!

Note

Gingerbread Latte in Starbucks is good, but doesn't compare to a Latte overlooking the Grande Canale next to Rialto...

RUNNING warm up/down 20:00 [2]
shoes: Asics Trainers

warming up/down for the big one...also watching where other people went!

ORIENTEERING race (Venice Street O) 1:12:55 [5] **** 10.2 km (7:09 / km)
spiked:21/25c shoes: Asics Trainers

The BIG one!
Managed to get lost on the way to number one slightly (after eating in a restaurant the evening before near there!!) and then got back on track until I lost lots of concentration after about 50-55 minutes of running. Made silly errors like missing canals, bridges and turning the wrong way ever though I was repeating instructions in my head... Was an amazing experience again like last year though. Brilliant concept for an orienteering race. Unfortunately I managed to knee a little girl in the head coming off one of the bridges. I rightly picked her up dusted her down and apologised... not much I could do really... those American/Japanese tourists though - could you get any more in the way??

Be back same time same place next year.

RUNNING warm up/down 10:00 [1]
shoes: Asics Trainers

Couldn't be arsed to warm down really... but i did a bit of stretching and a jog. Then ran after some pigeons in Per San Marco...!!

Saturday Nov 10, 2007 #

ORIENTEERING race (Venezia Park-O) 23:36 [5] **** 3.8 km (6:13 / km)
spiked:13/14c slept:9.5 shoes: Asics Trainers

Psyched for this one - short sharp bursts of energy with great routechoices. Made one slip up but found my place and carried on sprinting..
Really enjoyed it and came 8th / 110 competitors!
I was buzzing at the end!

RUNNING warm up/down 25:00 [2]

Warm up/down along the Venetian promenade looking out to the sea...

Friday Nov 9, 2007 #

RUNNING hills 3:00 [3]

Ran to get some milk - ahh really looking forward to the Park-O and drinking the Mulled wine at the end of the race!! Venice here is come!

Thursday Nov 8, 2007 #

Note

Spot of running today then I'll be completely knackered for the weekend..
Also trying to meet up with Jane tomorrow at a silly airport might be a little problematic then trying to find a small apartment rented by Irish people I don't know int he middle of Venice may just about take me over the edge!

ORIENTEERING 20:00 [5] ****
shoes: Asics Trainers

Ran round a bit of my planned course then realised I couldn't see - it was pitch black. I even had a head torch. Oh well - a little practise goes a long way!! I hope.

RUNNING warm up/down 5:00 [2]
shoes: Asics Trainers

Running around in the dark

Wednesday Nov 7, 2007 #

Note
rhr:44 slept:7.5

Well I haven't done anything yet but if this box doesn't get filled by the end of the day then I'm going to get angry at myself!!...

BIKING (Stupid Dusk Off Road) 1:05:00 [4]

Me and Jon decided the best thing to do was to go mountain biking in the dusk... parked in the twilight next to Ladybower Bridge then rode on the path along to cutthroat bridge - up past derwent edge and then down past High House to Ladybower over some of the slippiest, muddiest terrain in the dark...Awesome adrenaline rush!! and back in time for....

CLIMBING (Bouldering/Route Climbing) 1:30:00 [4]
shoes: Boreal Jokers

A spot of Route Climbing at the Foundry with Howard Road Girls and the others.
Did a couple of F6a's then got so pumped that all i could do was a bit of bouldering with massive gaps in the middle. Was brilliant to get back on the ropes and all I've been doing is bouldering recently. Not that specific really for Venice - but I'm getting there!!

Note

Also... did some planning - Finishing Eccy Woods and looking at Lakeside maps ready for the 25th Nov

Tuesday Nov 6, 2007 #

Note

As I've done pretty much shit all training recently, I'm going to nuckle down this week and do some sprint-o stuff around Walkley etc. ready for the Venice Street Race. No idea why I'm not doing anything... maybe I'm having too much fun!

WINTER TRAINING : INSERT HERE...

shoes: Asics Trainers
