WPOC meet at Deer Lakes (6.7 km / 275 m). We started early (in the start window) to try to avoid the worst of the heat, but it was still quite hot. It was less humid than it has been the past few days though so I didn't think it was too bad. To maximize my enjoyment of the course my strategy was to avoid going through the woods whenever possible. Success. I still came back with pants absolutely covered in burrs, but I only got in horrible vegetation a couple of times and only for short distances. Navigation was pretty clean. Checked out the wrong reentrant on the way to 6, small error on 12, terrible route to 13 (the one time I chose to go through the woods...), and a lot of hesitation on 15. I should remember to employ this strategy at future WPOC events.

Mostly in the rain. It was sunny when I started, and the weather app told me it wasn't supposed to rain, but after 10 min some storm clouds rolled in. That was shortly followed by lots of thunder and lightening and a heavy downpour. It was actually quite pleasant after the heat/humidity of the afternoon. I could have worn a hat instead of sunglasses though.
