Final set of long runs! Got an email last week that my ultra has been postponed to the fall - not surprising. I've already done the bulk of the training, the trail is close to home, and I am more interested in running the Laurel Highlands Trail than racing, so I'm still going to run the trail in June - solo, with Kevin as my crew. We'll see what happens this fall. I'd rather use all this fitness at rogaines...

Today we explored another section of the NCT. It was a beautiful day for a run! Started out in the low-30's, but it was sunny all morning and in the low-60's by the time I finished. Kevin didn't want to run the full distance, so we parked in the middle and he did the first half with me. It was a really nice section of trail. Would definitely run again. The section to the OH border was also very enjoyable. The rest was not so great. There was a decent stretch on a road (boring, but fast!) and then a straight section on an old rail bed. Kevin ran out to finish the last few miles with me. Nice surprise to see his smiling face :) Seemed like a flat run although it still had a decent amount of climb. Felt pretty good.

About once a year we decide to try orienteering at Mingo. And every time we say we should never go back. The map is just not good and there are thorn bushes everywhere. It was nice to be out in the woods with a map, but I have had my annual reminder of why we tend to avoid this park.

Trail time trial at South Park. There's a 'flat' loop that Kevin has been trying to convince me to use as a time trial course for a long time. I finally decided it was a good idea (probably should've listened to him earlier). Started by the stream and took all the shortest options. We were faster than I was expecting! It's fun to go fast sometimes. We did start off a little too fast and I was hurting by the end. We'll see if we can get the pace down below 9. Seems doable. Trails were in great shape today, just a couple wet spots.

Out and back on the North Country Trail through Moraine SP. Nice trail, very well maintained. There were even bridges across all the streams! We saw a smattering of people throughout. Distance travelled was somewhere between 23.9 (Kevin's watch) and 26.2 (reported trail mileage). Legs were beat for the last quarter-ish. I feel better about that after seeing the elevation gain. It didn't seem like we climbed that many hills... Looking forward to a rest week.

Walked outside wearing a sweatshirt, but then realized it was raining lightly. There wasn’t any rain in the forecast... Went back in and swapped for my rain coat which was a good choice because it continued raining the whole time I was running. Still a nice morning to be out on the trail.

Run on the Montour from the bike shop parking lot. Trail was pretty quiet. We started to see more people the last mile, so I think if we got out a bit earlier we would just about have the trail to ourselves. Legs felt decent. Started to run out of steam the last mile.

Exploring Ohiopyle State Park. We ran down a big hill, and then up a big hill, and then we ran some more. A good morning. Especially because we saw 0 other people! The trail up to Pressley Ridge was very faint and had a lot of downed trees. We did successfully follow it all the way up to the ridge (with one backtrack). It would be difficult to find from the top. Our distance estimates were off, so we decided to cut off a loop toward the end. To make up for it Kevin decided we should run up Sugarloaf Knob, but then there wasn't a trail back down the way we wanted to go so we bushwhacked. Not quite orienteering, but at least we got to run off trail for a bit! The woods were pretty nice.
