Orienteering race 24:16 [5] 2.7 km (8:59 / km)

Sprint final at QUT Kelvin Grove.

Not a great start to this one - busy trying to figure out what the various OOB, tapes and other instructions meant and managed to punch the kiddies control instead of ours. Luckily I figured it out or the rest of the dramas would have been even more frustrating.
The first loop around the schools went quite well... thought I'd missed on 5, but it turned out that the control was in the wrong place - near the centre of the circle, but on the wrong level. (don't read the control description - its all lies!).
Rachel had been steadily catching me, but I figured I could use her to keep my pace up... then coming out of 6 - CRACK - smashed my head on the railing I should have gone under, but completely didn't see. Rachel stopped for long enough to figure out I didn't need her professional assistance, and after I worked out that my head wasn't pissing blood and I hadn't knocked all my teeth out I ended up keeping going. The next few controls were definitely a mystery bus tour though.
Ended up coming through the controls under the buildings with Lizzie and Hanny (and a crowd other of very pissed off people). Not sure how anyone would decide that controls like these were ok.

8 AM

Orienteering race (NOL Sprint relay) 15:04 [5] 2.0 km (7:32 / km)

First leg of the NOL sprint relay. I was running in a team with Rachel, so the pressure was on as we had a good chance of a decent result. I had been a bit nervous warming up with my dodgy calf but figured I'd just try and not do anything stupid and hope it held together.

The start was a little crazy - our first control was all the way down to the lawn. I don't think I picked the best option (all the way along the central overpass), but I chose quickly and was first to the control. I definitely didn't take the best option to 2 and a small pack caught up and we were together for the next few. Clare and Barbara were in this group and running strongly. Did the rest of the course cleanly, but felt that I was struggling physically, and a little surprised to be with the leading bunch at the change over.

Orienteering race 14:01 [5] 2.0 km (7:01 / km)

Relay leg 3. Rachel had a good run and the teams at the front had spread out a bit, so I went out in 2nd, just after the men's mass start.
I got an easier start to this leg - just around the gardens at the top of the hill. Picked a good route on the first long leg and felt like I could start to run much more strongly as well. Just a small miss on the control at the top of the hill (third last) where I miss read the circle, but I managed to send Rachel out in first.

Rachel had a great run on the last leg and increased our lead! Yay! Great to have cyclones teams first and third, and take out the team competition.

Orienteering race 18:44 [4] 2.2 km (8:31 / km)

Sprint qual at griffith uni.
Very tricky course set by Su Yan at Griffith uni. Very technical and struggled to keep any flow or navigate ahead, but managed to avoid any major errors. happy to qualify comfortably for the final.

calves were a bit sore today, despite a shorter session today. hope it eases out over the next couple of days.

Running intervals 12:00 [5]

6x400m intervals on SMT oval, on 2min cycle. shorter session this week before the races on the weekend.
times were 82, 87, 87, 89, 90, 87.
