Event: Adelaide NOL

Orienteering race 17:38 [4] 2.2 km (8:01 / km)

NOL sprint qual at Flinders uni. On course A. Tricky course with lots of stairs and good route choice legs. One little wobble leaving 5 where I didn't see a track but all good other than that. Running was ok early on, but wasn't getting much power out of my left foot and slowed down a lot later in the course. Caught Katelyn mid way and ran the second half with her. Comfortably through to the final, just not sure of my ankle will cooperate.

Orienteering race 20:00 [4]

Sprint final at Waite uni campus. Got going after a bit of chaos at the start where the early starters had been given wrong maps. The start was tricky once you got into the buildings, not helped by the obvious route to the first control being blocked off. Wasn't super smooth through the first few, but then settled into things. My ankle wasn't happy, so it may have also been that I couldn't run as fast that meant that I was navigating better. Had a big wobble on 11 cos I found the fences and banks quite hard to interpret but was ok from there.

Note
(injured)

another trip to the physio. ankle was a bit puffy after the run, and my calf was really tight. worked on releasing the calf and getting range back. physio recons I'll be ok to race on the weekend, just need to make sure things don't tighten up too much. we'll see.

Running 34:00 [3]

Street o in Toowong. Conveniently just a few minutes run from home, but didn't have a control outside my house. Did the long although my ankle would probably have preferred a bit less. It was a bit stiff at the start and it got a bit sore at the end.
The course was good, no obvious combo of controls so heaps of different routes in the end. Mat picked a winning option to get an extra control right at the start which meant avoiding a big climb at the end - would have been nice!

Note

And it was raining, again.

Running 35:00 [3]

Run in Anzac park with James. Ankle was just a bit stiff for most of the run and I felt like I could run more normally, just slow. It feels like my fitness had completely deserted me in a couple of weeks but I'm hoping a couple more runs will help... So I did a couple of surges up hills which nearly killed me.
James did an extra loop at the end cos he was sick of running at grandma pace, and I shuffled home as the ankle got a bit unhappy. Hoping this was the start of real training.
