Orienteering race 1:22:32 [4] ***** 7.6 km (10:52 / km)
spiked:15/18c

OY at Amiens. First OY of the year, on the 20 yo Amiens map. was a bit apprehensive at the start, didn't feel so great after yesterdays training, and the last time I ran at Amiens I remember it being quite thick. Liz had set the courses for todays race and it turned out to be a scenic tour of the best Amiens had to offer - nice runnable forest (comparively) and some great legs across the bare rock. did most of the course quite well, but had a couple of wobbles due to a tendancy to drift right on compass bearings... at least by the end I knew where to start relocating from!
Reasonably happy with the run, although 10min ks was the goal - unfortunately blowouts in this terrain are punished severely. 10mins behind Clive, and ahead of the other guys. highlight was probably getting within a couple of seconds of Clive on a leg he ran well on!.

Orienteering warm up/down 30:00 [3]

warm up (jog) and control collecting for the warm down

Orienteering long 1:50:00 [3]

long terrain run + control picking at bullecourt. nice run around the doughnut at bullecourt. got really dehydrated and tired after about 90mins so cut it short.

Orienteering 36:00 [4] 3.0 km (12:00 / km)

bush "sprint" training at stanthorpe showgrounds. Wendy set a course for rachel and I, but the map was a little lacking and we both ended up a bit confused and somewhat pissed off. I ended up stopping halfway to relocate my sense of humour in order to complete the course. probably a good outing to get re-familarised with the vagueries of bush sprint maps and the random small stuff that ends up getting mapped.

Note

Went out to cascades to have a look around a section of the map that overlapped between the old amiens and new cascades maps. then we did some mapping of small sections. really good to get a bit of a reminder about what does and doesn't make it onto detailed rock maps. also nice to have a wander on the big rock slabs and check out the view (rather than trying not to get lost!)

Running hills 40:00 [3]

Anzac Park run + warm up and warm down. with Mat, Clive and Magnus.
very tired and slow and cut out the extra loop cos it was getting too dark. I think I'm glad I did it, but wasn't too sure at the time. couldn't summon up the energy to run home - lucky the walk isn't too far these days!

Running 55:00 [3]

Run home from work. hot evening, and home is now further away. spent a fair bit of time standing at traffic lights. I think the taping I'm using for my foot is putting a bit more stress on my calf, so still some work to do balancing it out. hopefully things are on the mend now.

Running 45:00 [3]

night run from Wendy's place, with Dan, Clare, Trev and a bunch of Trevs mates. did the short loop again. Foot not too bad, although getting some pain behind my knee at the end. much nicer run in general than any have been in a while - for the first time in ages felt like I could put one foot in front of the other without it being a total struggle.

thought it had been pretty hot running - turns out it was 29C at 7pm when we started.

Note

more house moving in the rain. succeeded in getting everything moved, and Dan installed bike racks in the garage. the rest of the house is still a disaster area.
big thank you to Clare and Andy for helping move the fridge, and Lance and Wendy for feeding us dinner.
