(rest day)

Tired. Time for a rest.

Orienteering race 40:00 [5]

Run leg of the duo event art deebing creek. Mass start and amusing to see the optimism of some of the AR crew as they took off after Tom and Dan. Scrappy little area with lots of fun erosion. Lots of close controls and ended up missing one. Oops.
Very hot and humid which got pretty tough at the end.

Cycling race 1:35:00 [4]

The mtbo leg. Had found my old map board but it didn't fit my bars do dodgyed it on. Sorry bike!
The course was quite fun. Very intense nav and fun riding with lots of single track and sketchy erosion. So pretty much just not the stuff that normally makes mtbo shit.
First back by at least 10 mins but no result thanks to mp on the run leg.

commute. quite tired today.

pilates 1:00:00 [1]

Bit sore and tired this evening

Cycling 2:45:00 [3]

Gravel ride up emu creek road to the steamers. Good gravel then rugged gravel. Lots of creek crossings. Fun ride. Bike was playing up a bit. Don't think the gears like that much sand in them. Legs were tired but ok, but behind my left knee got pretty sore at the end.

Orienteering 2:05:00 [3]

Long control pick at broadwater, on the south side. A bit more runnable and feeling like my nav was starting to come together. Good for 90 mins but got a bit sketchy for the last 20 mins. Still think it's one of the best areas ever.

Orienteering 40:00 [3]

Control pick at broadwater. Very nice way to finish up the training camp. Feel like i can orienteer again. Very happy with how the running is going - fitness is lacking but I'm feeling comfortable running in terrain for three first time in about 4 years.

Note

As broadwater is a new map we could use maprun. Pretty good for training in very technical terrain without having to put tapes out.

Orienteering 1:50:00 [3]

Amiens. Did a repeat of an exercise i did a few years ago with kryso. They've felled the pine forest bits which were all the nice running. All the tricky stuff still there though. Tough going trying to run. Legs heavy and thick forest.

Orienteering 57:00 [3]

Middle style course on cascades in the late arvo. Bit more runnable and felt like i was getting a bit better flow. That was coming of a very low base though. Awesome to be out there in the golden light as the sun was setting.

Saturday Jan 23, 2021 #

Orienteering 1:25:00 [3]

Maze thing at Rosenthal creek. Lots of grass and weeds since the rain made it tough going.

Friday Jan 22, 2021 #

Cycling 1:00:00 [3]

commute. a car ran up the back of a 4wd in front of us at a set of lights in the city. obviously paying no attention. didn't even attempt to brake. lots of mess but nobody actually hurt.

Thursday Jan 21, 2021 #

Note

meh. guts still dodgy.

Wednesday Jan 20, 2021 #

Note

Still sick but over the crazy fever that got me yesterday arvo.

Tuesday Jan 19, 2021 #

Note

physio. some ultrasound on bertha and needles in my lower back.

Note
(sick)

Also sick. May or may not be related to Iggy's monster vom last night.

Monday Jan 18, 2021 #

Cycling 1:00:00 [3]

tired legs and very sweaty. dan is back working in the office so I had a tow in along coro drive.

Bertha is trucking on - most of the bruising around the edge has gone, but the centre is now a fairly firm tennis ball sized lump. That has a weird ring around it where the layer just under the skin has gone quite hard. mostly just a dull ache now. physio tmw.

Saturday Jan 16, 2021 #

Cycling 1:45:00 [3]

Gravel ride up and back burnett creek road from the corner, with Dan, Pete, Will and Dad. very humid. bit of a slog on the way up with lots of false flats, but then its a great run coming back. everything is lovely and green at the moment and the creek is flowing nicely.

Cycling 1:30:00 [3]

trolls. steady one this morning.
took the tape of Bertha last night. most of the bruising around the edge has gone away but the hematoma in the middle is still the same - about the size of a tennis ball. doesn't hurt if I don't poke it.

Cycling 1:00:00 [3]

v tired this morning, but on the fast bike.
annoying ear thing back today, which doesn't really fit the humid + dehydrated theory cos today is neither.

pilates 1:00:00 [1]

back into it. probably getting time for a new program.

Tuesday Jan 12, 2021 #

Cycling 1:00:00 [3]

commute. full gravel mode today. bike still thinks it's on holiday. (fast roadie is a bit shit to ride with a heavy backpack).

Monday Jan 11, 2021 #

Note

physio. taped up the bruised area to try and reduce the swelling and did some work on my back. she said they can do some ultrasound and stuff to break up the hematoma if it doesn't go away by itself.
not my normal physio and was probably a bit too gentle. got an appointment with Kara next week so she'll sort me out.

Sunday Jan 10, 2021 #

Note

Hip and back still sore and spent the day painting and was pretty tied by the end.
Physio tmw so hopefully should sort my back out a bit and get some advice on my bruise. More yellow and green today but the middle is still a big hard lump.

Friday Jan 8, 2021 #

Note

Question for medical peeps.... Bertha has developed a big patch of plasma blisters and I'm wondering at what point i need to be worried about it.
Overall it's about 15cm across with very dark purple ring of bruise that's not too painful. The centre is about 5cm and quite swollen and a bit painful. Not dark bruising in the middle but lots of yellow blisters.
I iced it a fair bit for the first few days but only a couple of times a day for pain relief the last few days.

Cycling 2:30:00 [3]

Mtb down the old Grafton road from the Gwider highway with Pete. It was meant to be a car swap with Dan parking at the bottom and riding up but he'd gone past so much flooding he bailed on his ride and met us about 20 km from where or ride was meant to finish. I was pretty happy to stop. The rain had been getting heavier for a while and i was cold and tired. Had a few creek crossings on the way out that were higher than you'd like.

walk 1:30:00 [1]

Rest day. Walk to anvil rock.

Tuesday Jan 5, 2021 #

Cycling 3:00:00 [3]

Bit of an exploratory mtb ride in booral np on random trails. Had a long hike a bike up and back an overgrown dead end, then went out to a pretty cool lookout. Saw one snake.
Bertha went ok. It seems like the bruising isn't in the muscle layer. Probably going to be a while before i can run though. It's good some crazy blisters in the middle now.

Monday Jan 4, 2021 #

Note

Hip bruise has swollen up heaps and Dan and Pete have named it Bertha. Starting to get some good colour in it.
Dan and Pete rode most of the great walk again but bertha needed a day off.

Sunday Jan 3, 2021 #

Cycling 3:30:00 [3]

Rode the washpool great walk track. Nice trail and plenty of variety in the forests. A lot is still just starting to recover from the fires last year.
I managed to crash on a wooden bridge that was super slippery. I think i was just a tiny bit off balance but crashed so fast i had no chance to do anything about it. Landed very heavily on my hip which has swollen up heaps. Little bruise on my hand and my neck and back a bit jarred from the landing.

walk 45:00 [1]

Side walks from the great walk loop

Saturday Jan 2, 2021 #

Note

Braved a border crossing to spend the week at Gibraltar range np. Plan was to stop are the mtb trails at New Italy on the way down but the road in was covered in flood water and it looked like a mud fest so skipped the ride.

Running long 1:50:00 [3]

Happy New year and good riddance to the shitshow of 2020! Woke up early and figured that if i was going to go for a run it had to be then. Headed up to coottha. Not many people out and nice and cool and humid. Found the new trail which goes from the summit to the gardens which destroyed two of my favorite mtb trails. The old trails were better. The run ended up way longer than i should have been out for and i was pretty trashed at the end. I don't think today will be as productive as i was hoping.
